Ford Everest Overview

The Everest is one significant model for Ford Philippines car market and has been instrumental in building up its presence as a trustworthy and desirable brand in the country ever since its launch back in 2003. In the current times, the Ford Everest is holding its candle strongly against stiff competition from traditional Japanese rivals like Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Montero Sport, Isuzu mu-X, and Nissan Terra, apart from its American arch-rival Chevrolet Trailblazer. The Ford Everest has been consistently ranking as the highest in-demand vehicle from Ford in the Philippines.

Ford Everest History

Given the huge success of the Ford Ranger pickup truck in Asian markets, Ford decided to use its platform to develop a more functional and practical seven-seater rugged SUV, and this led to the birth of Everest for Asian markets back in 2003. The old school American looks of the Ford Everest were enough to attract buyers to Ford showrooms, and the SUV quickly became one of the most consistently selling vehicles in the Philippines.

This first-generation model of the Ford Everest received mild visual updates in the form of the first facelift in 2007 and the second facelift in 2010. The second facelift ran in the Philippines car market for five years, and after that Ford launched the completely revamped second-generation model of the Ford Everest in 2015.

The second generation of the Ford Everest, like its predecessor, was too based on the same platform that underpinned the Ranger pickup truck. However, in the process, it became bigger, much more polished and sophisticated in and out and feature-rich than ever before. This second-generation model received a very mild update in 2020, which saw the SUV receiving a new set of engine options.

Ford Everest Highlight

In its latest iteration which was launched in 2020, the Ford Everest retains the original design of the second generation of the SUV introduced back in 2015, albeit with a new grille, revised headlamps, and few additional features on the inside. The big brute design of the Ford Everest is the most likable part of the SUV, and the enhanced interior cabin and the usability of the seven seats make it even more desirable.

The most significant change introduced in the facelifted Ford Everest has to be its powertrain lineup. This premium midsize Ford SUV is now available in a total of three different engine options, spanning across four different variants to choose from. The base Trend 4x2 variant sources its power from a previous generation 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, which makes 160 PS of power and 385 Nm of torque. The mid-spec Sport 4x2 and Titanium 4x2 are powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, which produces 180 PS of power and 420 Nm of torque. The top-spec Titanium+ 4x4 variant gets the bi-turbo version of the 2.0-litre diesel engine, which here makes 213 PS of power and 500 Nm of torque.

Except for the base Trend variant, which gets a 6-speed automatic gearbox, the rest of them get a new generation 10-speed automatic gearbox. Also, only the top-spec Titanium+ gets a four-wheel-drive system, with the rest of them bestowed with a simple rear wheel drive configuration.

Ford Everest Safety

With this new updated second-generation model, the Ford Everest gets a slew of advanced safety features, most of which are restricted to the top-spec Titanium+ variant. Features like pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, semi-auto active park assist, auto high beam control, terrain response management system, blind-spot monitoring system, electronic stability control, roll stability control, ABS with EBD and brake assist, hill descent control, hill launch assist, Ford MyKey system, front and rear parking sensors, reverse camera and front, side, curtain and driver knee airbags make the Ford Everest a comprehensively equipped package.

Ford Everest Consumption

The base Trend variant of the Ford Everest, with the 2.2-litre diesel engine mated to a 6-speed auto gearbox, is the least fuel-efficient option of the SUV, which returns 13.69 km/l. The advanced 2.0-litre engine, which is married to a 10-speed auto gearbox, is slightly more fuel-efficient, with the 4x2 variants returning 14.49 km/l and the top-spec 4x4 variant promising 14.08 km/l.

Ford Everest Pros and Cons

Ford Everest Pros

  • Muscular design and premium interiors – The second-generation Ford Everest really upped the when it comes to design, with the muscular design, heightened stance, and premium interiors making it a much more desirable SUV to own.
  • Torquey diesel engine – The new 2.0-litre diesel engine might be smaller in size than the erstwhile powertrain options, but it trumps all of them when it comes to outright performance and even efficiency.
  • Spacious and feature-rich cabin – All the seven seats of the Ford Everest offer an ample amount of space and features, with the big panoramic sunroof enhancing the sense of space even more.

Ford Everest Cons

  • No significant change in visual appeal in the facelift – While there is nothing to complain about the visual appeal and experience of the Ford Everest’s exterior and interiors, the facelift could have introduced significant changes and additions, considering the fact that it is already a six-year-old model.
  • Refinement levels of the engine – The new 2.0-litre engine is a significant improvement over the previously available engine options, but it still has a long way to go when it comes to outright refinement.
