A step-by-step guide to getting duplicate LTO OR/CR

A car owner has to care for several things, for instance, the car, its service and maintenance, and not to forget the important documents associated with the vehicle. Two such vital papers are the OR/CR, i.e., the Official Receipt and Certificate of Registration.

The degree of OR/CR utility can be understood from the fact that every motorcycle (MC) and motor vehicle (MV) owner carries them when riding along country roads. If that’s not the case, they would be fined by the traffic authorities.

Types of OR/CR

These are two types of OR/CR - one that is issued for new vehicles and another that is renewed after 3 years, post the expiry of the former. While the former is mostly provided by the car dealer (at no additional cost) and showcases a sophisticated design, the renewed version features a much simpler design.

What to do in case of OR/CR loss or damage?

In case you have lost or damaged your vehicle’s original OR/CR then the option to go with is securing a duplicate copy from LTO. This brings us to the very purpose of this article, i.e., to provide you with a step-by-step guide to acquiring a duplicate OR/CR.

#1 Who is eligible for getting a duplicate OR/CR?

Anybody who owns a registered motor vehicle or motorcycle can secure a duplicate OR/CR from LTO.

#2 What are the requirements for getting a duplicate OR/CR?

Before you head out to the nearest LTO office to apply for a duplicate OR/CR, we suggest you go fully prepared with all the required documents. Coz without them your application would get stuck.

Requirement for Duplicate OR/CR

• Notarized affidavit of loss/mutilation from the registered vehicle owner
• Latest OR for payment of registration
• Actual inspection of the vehicle
• Motor Vehicle Inspection Report (duly accomplished & approved)
• Two valid, government-issued IDs of the vehicle owner
• Certificate from the company management (if MV or MC is company-owned)
• Duly-signed authorization letter & vehicle owner’s IDs (if the vehicle owner is sending a representative in his place)

#3 What is the procedure to acquire a duplicate OR/CR?

In order to secure a duplicate copy of the OR/CR, a vehicle owner must follow the below-mentioned steps.

• Prepare the docs to confirm the loss of OR/CR (obtain a notarized affidavit of loss/mutilation)
• Visit the LTO office where the vehicle was originally registered (but before that verify if the concerned LTO issues duplicate OR/CR and its operational hours)
• After reaching the LTO, head straight to the transaction counter
• Next, hand over the notarized affidavit of loss and other required documents (as mentioned above) to the evaluator for evaluation and computation of fees
• Time for Motor Vehicle Inspection; the car inspector will inspect the vehicle, verify the details in MVIR and vehicle ownership
• Time to head over to the cashier where you’ll pay the required fees and thereafter you’ll obtain the duplicate Official Receipt (OR)
• Next, proceed to the Releasing Counter where you’ll get your duplicate Certificate of Registration (CR) along with stickers, plates, and other required documents

#4 How much does it cost to obtain a duplicate OR/CR?

In order to obtain duplicate OR/CR in case of loss or damage of the original paperwork, you’d have to get ready all the required documents, visit LTO where the vehicle is originally registered, submit the required documents to the evaluator, and wait for your turn. Lastly, pay a PHP 300 fee, and there you have it, your duplicate OR/CR copies.

If you have also lost your original OR/CR then don’t worry, by following the above steps and paying a nominal fee you can obtain the duplicate documents. However, here are a few more points you should remember.

• Only visit the LTO office where your vehicle was originally registered
• Do confirm the concerned LTO office’s operational hours before heading to
• Get the affidavit of loss/mutilation to prove the original OR/CR is no longer available
• Once you have secured the duplicate OR/CR, it is advisable to make multiple photocopies and keep the duplicate in a safe place
• It is also advisable to keep a digital copy of the duplicate OR/CR on your smartphone and laptop
• Remember to keep the LTO OR/CR with you all the time when out driving
