Initially introduced as a concept vehicle, the Q7 was Audi’s first SUV when it was unveiled in 2005 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Manufacture of the mass production Q7 began in autumn of 2005 at the Volkswagen Bratislava Plant in Bratislava, Slovakia, and the vehicle eventually went on sale in 2006. The Q7 shares the same platform and chassis with fellow Volkswagen makes the Touareg and the Porsche Cayenne.

The Q7 initially came with only one power train-a 4.2-liter V-8 with 350 horsepower engine mated to an all-wheel drive and six-speed automatic transmission. Despite this limitation, the Q7 still proved a major upgrade over the usual SUV styling and handling.
