Ford Ecosport Overview
With the Ecosport, Ford Philippines created a quite revelation in auto industry, for it was the most affordable and smallest SUV cars when it was introduced for the first time back in 2014. The Ford Ecosport opened the gates as well as prompted an all-new segment of entry-level compact SUVs, which are sized similar to a family hatchback but offer the butch visual appeal of a bigger SUV or crossover. The Ford Ecosport continues to be the highest-selling model from the American automaker in the country, alongside the Ford Everest, and now serves as the most affordable car from the blue oval car maker.
Ford Ecosport History
When Ford unveiled the global second generation of the Ecosport back in 2012 at the Delhi Auto Expo in India, it was promised to take on the emerging car markets across the world and strengthen the position of Ford as a volume-oriented car maker. The compact dimensions married to macho visual appeal from bigger Ford SUVs made the Ford Ecosport instantly likeable by the masses, and it became an instant hit, post its launch here in the Philippines back in 2014.
The Ford Ecosport was launched here in the Philippines with a standard petrol engine, and in this globally second-generation avatar, it continued its run here in the country for the next 5 years, starting from 2014. In 2019, Ford decided to spruce the Ecosport by launching its first-ever facelift, which brought it in line with the new generation Ford SUVs in terms of exterior design and features. This facelifted Ford Ecosport also saw the introduction of an all-new 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine option under the hood, replacing the erstwhile four-cylinder 1.5-litre petrol mill.
Ford Ecosport Highlight
In its current avatar, the Ford Ecosport is being offered with two engines and two transmission options to choose from. The base Trend MT variant of the Ford Ecosport comes with a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, which makes 123 PS of maximum power and 150 Nm of torque. The next two variants, Trend AT and Titanium AT, come with the same engine, coupled to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The range-topping Titanium 1.0 AT comes with a more advanced 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox, which produces 125 PS of maximum power and 170 Nm of torque.
Despite its entry-level positioning and compact size, the Ford Ecosport feels like a top-notch SUV, thanks to its sturdy build quality as well as a long list of features, with the latter including kit like HID projector headlamps with daytime running LEDs, 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlamps, leather upholstery, 8-way adjustable driver seat, touchscreen infotainment system with 7 speakers, keyless entry with push-button start, automatic climate control, tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel with audio and Bluetooth controls, electric sunroof and cooled glove box.
Ford Ecosport Safety
For a compact entry-level SUV, the Philippines-spec Ford Ecosport is richly equipped when it comes to keeping the inner occupants safely. The list of safety features in the Ford Ecosport comprises of the front, side, and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, hill start assist, hill descent control, traction control, electronic stability control, and reverse parking sensors with camera.
Ford Ecosport Fuel Consumption
With a claimed fuel efficiency of 14.7 km/l, the Ford Ecosport is slightly on the lower edge when it comes to fuel efficiency. However, what it makes up for is the good flow of power across the rev range.
New Ford Ecosport Fuel Consumptions
- Ford Ecosport 2021: 14.7 KM/L
Used Ford Ecosport Fuel Consumptions
- Ford Ecosport 2019: 14.7 KM/L
Ford Ecosport Pros
- Modern muscular design – The Ford Ecosport has been designed keeping in line with the bigger Ford SUVs, which are already one of the finest and muscular looking SUVs in the market.
- Powerful and refined engine – For three-cylinder engine setups, both the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol as well as 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine show commendable levels of refinement and performance.
- Sturdy build quality – The Ford Ecosport shows no signs of compromise when it comes to build quality.
Ford Ecosport Cons
- Slightly lower fuel efficiency – For a compact car, the Ford Ecosport scores low fuel efficiency when compared to rival offerings.
- Limited rear-seat space – The compact dimensions of the Ford Ecosport do eat up rear-seat space and comfort, with limited knee room and shoulder room at the back.
