Ford Mustang Overview
The most successful grand tourer from the United States of America, the Ford Mustang has been the halo flagship car from the American car maker in the Philippines, ever since its launch here in 2012. The Ford Mustang is positioned here in the Philippines as a sports car, a promise on which it delivers thanks to its mammoth 5.0-litre V8 engine option. The current iteration of the Ford Mustang is available in both coupe and convertible avatars.
Ford Mustang History
While the Ford Mustang has a supremely glorious history commencing all the way from the sixties of the 20th century, the Philippines car market got the Mustang only in 2012, when the fifth generation model was launched here with a standard V8 petrol automatic powertrain. The arrival of Ford Mustang here was one of the most remarkable decisions from Ford Philippines arm, for it was launched here as a premium sports car priced at half of that of a conventional sports car.
In 2015, Ford brought in the all-new sixth generation model, which was groundbreaking in terms of the sleeker design and much more contemporary feel it packed in. This model was now available with two different engine options – the 5.0-litre V8 from the erstwhile model and a more accessible 2.3-litre turbocharged four cylinder petrol engine.
In 2019, this Ford Mustang received its first ever facelift, the highlights of which are sleeker and angrier looking LED headlamps, minor redesign touches to front and rear bumpers, all new fully digital instrument console and many more. Also, with this iteration, Ford introduced the convertible version of the Mustang for the first time in the Philippines, which can also be had with a manual transmission option – another first for Mustang here in the Philippines.
Ford Mustang Highlight
This time around, Ford has made the Mustang available in a total of four different variants to choose from – 2.3 Fastback AT, 5.0 Fastback AT, 5.0 Convertible MT and 5.0 Convertible AT. The range starts with the 2.3-litre Fastback AT, which gets the smallest engine a Mustang has ever been bestowed with in its entire history – a 2.3-litre four cylinder turbocharged petrol motor, which is paired to a 10-speed automatic gearbox. This engine makes a healthy 310 PS of maximum power and 474 Nm of peak torque output.
The other three variants of the Ford Mustang are powered by the range topping 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 petrol engine, which is tuned to deliver 460 PS of maximum power and 569 Nm of torque. This engine is offered with both 10-speed automatic gearbox and a 6-speed manual gearbox, with the latter available as an option only in the convertible variant.
Ford Mustang Safety
The premium positioning of the Ford Mustang means that the sports car is equipped with safety features up to the brim. All the variants of the Mustang have the same standard safety features list, which includes front, side, curtain and knee airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection, blind spot information system with cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, active braking, reverse parking sensors with camera, tire pressure monitoring system and electronic stability control.
Ford Mustang Fuel Consumption
Blame its performance oriented nature, the Ford Mustang has never been too high on the expectations of fuel economy. The big V8 heart of the Mustang is good enough to deliver a decent 8.08 kmpl of fuel efficiency, with the smaller 2.3-litre Ecoboost being more fuel efficient at almost 11.2 km/l.
New Ford Mustang Fuel Consumptions
- Ford Mustang 2021: 8.08 KM/L
Used Ford Mustang Fuel Consumptions
- Ford Mustang 2020: 8.08 KM/L
- Ford Mustang 2014: 8.5 KM/L
Ford Mustang Pros and Cons
Ford Mustang Pros
- Striking road presence – Thanks to the perfect blend of sleek lines and macho design theme, the Ford Mustang has got a striking road presence, with the long grand tourer length enhancing its appeal even more.
- Straight lane performance – The brilliant V8 engine has got unadulterated performance to offer, which is best enjoyable on fast stretches, thus making it a great mile muncher.
- Premium appeal on the inside – The Ford Mustang is equipped with the best of comforts and luxuries, coupled with good fit and finish levels.
Ford Mustang Cons
- Thirsty V8 petrol engine – The V8 engine, which delivers highly on the front of performance, is naturally on the lower end of the fuel efficiency spectrum.
- Handling not as fine as other sports cars – The Ford Mustang is a heavy car, thanks to its GT roots. So, don’t expect it to handle with as precision as other low slung sports coupes.
