Honda Civic Overview
One of the highly successful and universally acceptable models from Honda across the globe, the Honda Civic has earned a stellar reputation among all those who value sportiness and practicality in an equal balance. The Honda Civic has always been one family-oriented sedan with a hint of sportiness in its design and the way it drives, which makes it the best of both worlds. The Philippines car market has always got the latest generation model of the Honda Civic soon after their respective global launches and continues to get the current tenth generation model as of now.
Honda Civic History
The original history of the Honda Civic longs back to the year 1972 when the first-ever generation of the Honda Civic made its debut in the home market of Japan. However, the Philippines car market got the Honda Civic only in 2001 with its seventh generation model. After that, all the global iterations of the Honda Civic have arrived on the Philippines shores, and have been pretty successful models in the midsize executive sedan car category.
Since the seventh generation, Honda Civic arrived in the Philippines car market in 2001, all of its versions to date have been sold as four-door sedans with petrol engines only. In 2006, the eighth generation model arrived in the Philippines, with the ninth generation model arriving in to the scene only in 2012. From 2016 to date, the tenth generation Honda Civic is serving as one of the finest cars from Honda Philippines portfolio.
Honda Civic Highlight
The Honda Civic has always been one stylish and aerodynamic-looking sedan right from the beginning, with the current tenth generation model being the best looking one in its entire history. The sleek coupe-like lines and sloping roof, with the swanky looking rear profile, make it a head-turner, despite being focused as a car made for masses.
For the Philippines car market, Honda has made the Civic sedan available in three different variants – V, E, and RS. Both V and E variants of the Honda Civic are powered by a 1.8-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine under their hoods, which makes 141 PS of power and 174 Nm of torque. The range-topping RS variant gets a more technologically advanced 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which produces 174 PS of power and 220 Nm of torque. A CVT gearbox is the standard transmission option available in all the variants of the Honda Civic.
Honda Civic Safety
Being a modern executive sedan, the Honda Civic is packed with safety features to the gills. While it misses out on autonomous safety features which more premium sedans do get, the Honda Civic gets all the essential ones in the form of the front, side, and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control with traction control, brake assist, tire pressure monitoring system, hill start assist, reverse parking sensors and camera and lane-watch camera.
Honda Civic Fuel Consumption
For a midsize sedan driven by a petrol automatic powertrain, the Honda Civic is pretty fuel-efficient, with the overall figure hovering around the mark of 16.5 kmpl.
New Honda Civic Fuel Consumptions
- Honda Civic 2021: 16.5 KM/L
Used Honda Civic Fuel Consumptions
- Honda Civic 2020: 16.5 KM/L
- Honda Civic 2016: 14.3 KM/L
Honda Civic Pros and Cons
Honda Civic Pros
- Sporty design – The overall low slung styling of the Honda Civic look very sporty, right from front to rear, which gives it a striking and head-turning road presence despite it being a mass-market sedan
- Driving appeal – The low center of gravity due to the low slung appeal of the Civic, combined with perfectly weighted steering and decently powerful engine makes it one excellent driver’s car.
- Smooth and refined engine – Honda’s petrol engines always have remarkable refinement levels, and the powertrain options of the Civic are no exception.
Honda Civic Cons
- Ingress and egress is not so convenient – The low slung stance of the Honda Civic makes getting and out of the car a bit of a hard-work, especially for elder people
- Limited headroom at the rear – The sloping coupe-like the roofline of the Honda Civic makes the car look cool, but it eats up some amount of headroom at the rear, which can be difficult for taller people.
