Honda Brio Overview
Ever since its arrival in the year 2014 in the Philippines, the Honda Brio has been serving as the most affordable from the Japanese car maker, and as a gateway to the Honda brand which is known for reliability and fine engineering – something which masses usually prefer. Thanks to the Brio, Honda now has a much wider access to the car buying audience of the Philippines due to its compact entry level pricing. The Honda Brio is positioned below the premium hatchback Jazz in Honda Philippines lineup, and is currently in its second generation avatar.
Honda Brio History
After making a series of premium sedan cars and crossovers, Honda decided to make its presence feel in a bigger and wider manner by shifting its focus towards hatchbacks, a segment which is usually preferred by first time car buyers.
The launch of premium hatchback Jazz left for some more room in Honda’s lineup, and the Japanese car maker decided to fill it up with the Honda Brio in 2014. The Honda Brio, ever since its introduction in 2014, has been the most affordable car one can have from the portfolio of Honda.
This version of the Honda Brio was given a mild facelift in 2016, with the hatchback receiving some revisions to the frontal styling and an all-new dashboard layout on the inside. These changes surely made the Honda Brio feel like a much larger and slightly more premium car than the pre-facelifted model.
In the year 2019, Honda gave a complete makeover to the Brio and brought in its second generation model. This version of the Brio became bigger in terms of the dimensions and feels more premium due to additional features it offers over the model it replaced.
Honda Brio Highlight
Despite being its most affordable car primarily engineered for the masses, Honda has left no stone unturned to make it feel as premium as a Honda car should be at the very first place, thus giving it an edge over its competitors. This second generation Honda Brio, like its predecessor, is brought to the Philippines as completely built units from Honda’s Indonesian plant. This iteration of the Honda Brio is being offered in three different variants – S MT, V CVT, and RS CVT.
All these variants of the Honda Brio are being powered by the same 1.2-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, which makes 90 PS of maximum power and 110 Nm of peak torque output. This engine is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox in the base S MT variant and CVT gearbox in higher V CVT and RS CVT variants. This very engine used to power the previous generation Honda Brio as well, with almost no changes to its power and torque outputs.
Honda Brio Safety
Being an entry-level hatchback, the Honda Brio misses out on the much more premium safety features of more premium siblings from Honda’s portfolio. Instead, it does away with bare essentials like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors and camera.
Honda Brio Fuel Consumption
The Honda Brio is offered with a common 1.2-litre petrol engine with both manual and CVT gearbox options. While the engine with the manual transmission returns 18.5 km/l, the one mated to a CVT gearbox promises 16.5 km/l.

Honda Brio Pros and Cons
Honda Brio Pros
- Modern exterior design – The Honda Brio looks fresh and premium for an entry level hatchback, offering it an edge over its other rival offerings.
- Spacious cabin – Don’t be fooled by the compact dimensions of the Honda Brio, as the cabin feels immensely spacious for five despite its compact dimensions.
- Peppy and fuel efficient engine – The 1.2-litre engine of the Honda Brio scores not only brilliantly in performance and refinement, but also delivers impressive fuel economy.
Honda Brio Cons
- Lackluster interior – The overall interior cabin design of the Honda Brio feels a bit dated, and could have been spruced up with more features.
- Slightly pricey over rivals – The Honda Brio follows the manufacturer’s tradition of being substantially pricey over what competition is offering.
