Honda Jazz Overview
The Honda Jazz is one of the most beloved cars in the Philippines car market for a brilliant all-rounder it is. The premium Honda hatchback is the most expensive offering in its segment, but then, it promises perfection in whatever parameter you take into consideration – be it the amount of space and features, or the benchmark it has set in terms of premium appeal and performance. The Honda Jazz is right at the top of the game when it comes to premium hatchback meant for the masses.
Honda Jazz History
The Honda Jazz commenced its journey in the Philippines car market back in 2004, when the first-ever generation model of the premium hatchback arrived on the Philippines shores. At that time, the Honda Jazz was launched in a total of three different variants – 1.3 L, 1.3 S, and 1.5 S, with two engine options to choose from – a 1.3-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre petrol.
Honda replaced the first-generation Jazz in 2008 with an all-new second-generation model, which was a perfect evolution of its predecessor in terms of styling and equipment. This new second-generation Honda Jazz retained the engine options as well as the variant lineup of the first generation model it replaced and went on to be on sale for the next six years.
Then the third generation Honda Jazz came in 2014, replacing the second generation model with a sharper and tauter looking model which like its predecessors immediately connected with the youth audience. This third-generation model received its first facelift in 2017, and with this the 1.3-litre petrol engine was shown the back doors.
Honda Jazz Highlight
While the all-new fourth generation Honda Jazz has already hit the global markets, the Philippines car market might not be getting it due to its expensive propositions. Instead, here, the Honda Jazz is strongly soldiering on with its facelifted third generation version, which continues to be the most premium offering in its segment.
Honda is offering the Jazz in a total of three different variants – V, VX, and RS – all of which are powered by the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine and are coupled to a CVT gearbox as standard. The engine is capable of putting up a maximum power output of 120 PS and a peak torque output of 145 Nm. The base V variant can also be had with an optional 5-speed manual gearbox.
Honda Jazz Safety
For the segment to which it belongs, the Honda Jazz is a class-leading car when it comes to safety features. The premium hatchback is packed with kit like the front, side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors and camera, hill start assist, and electronic stability control.
Honda Jazz Consumption
Like all of its stablemates, the combination of a smooth and refined petrol engine with a CVT gearbox works wonders for the Honda Jazz when it comes to not only performance, but also fuel efficiency as well. The 1.5-litre petrol engine in the Honda Jazz, which is shared with the Honda City sedan, returns a promising fuel efficiency of 17.5 kmpl.

Honda Jazz Pros and Cons
Honda Jazz Pros
- Sleek and contemporary design – The Honda Jazz, even after all these years of its existence in the Philippines car market, continues to look youthful and timeless, thanks to its sleek and sharp lines which make it look very aerodynamic.
- Smooth and refined powertrain – The 1.5-litre petrol engine of the Honda Jazz promises segment-best refinement and performance levels, with the CVT adding the factor of convenience as well.
- Spacious cabin – There is literally no other car in the premium hatchback space, which offers as much as space and comfort which the Honda Jazz offers.
Honda Jazz Cons
- Lack of features – Given its segment, the Honda Jazz could have had more features on offer to justify its premium positioning over its rivals
- Slightly pricey – Yes, the Honda Jazz is one brilliant product to start with, but its hefty price tag surpasses even some of the compact sedans which are bigger in size from the Jazz.
