Hyundai Accent Overview
It is the Hyundai Accent that has cemented the position of Hyundai Philippines as an established carmaker, owing to its overall appeal as a well-rounded package for the masses in the affordable sedan segment. The Hyundai Accent is currently the oldest nameplate in the passenger vehicle portfolio of Hyundai in the Philippines and has seen multiple generations ever since its introduction back in 2007.
Hyundai Accent History
While Hyundai has been making Accent in many of the global markets, including that of USA and Europe, the compact sedan cars arrived in the Philippines only in 2007, when it was in its third generation version. This car was launched as Verna and Solaris in many other countries, but the Philippines car market got this sedan as the first-ever Hyundai Accent.
This model of the Hyundai Accent was replaced with an all-new fourth-generation model in 2011, which saw the sedan getting a complete makeover, making it much more premium and sleeker in appearance. This time around it was launched with a new set of powertrains, which were completely different from the ones available in the previous generation version. While this model received a minor facelift in 2015 in many other countries, which saw the sedan receiving a fresh new fascia, the Philippines car market continued to get the same 2011 version of the Accent.
Then in 2019, Hyundai brought in the fifth generation Accent in the Philippines market, almost two years after its global unveil. With an evolved exterior design, redone interior cabin, and same set of engines as its predecessor, the Hyundai Accent was re-launched and continues to be one of the highest-selling models from Hyundai’s lineup in the Philippines.
Hyundai Accent Highlight
The fifth-generation Hyundai Accent currently on sale in the Philippines is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. While the petrol engine is a 1.4-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated mill which makes 100 PS of power and 132 Nm of torque, the diesel engine employed is a 1.6-litre four-cylinder oil burner which churns out 128 PS of power and 260 Nm of torque. Both the engines are being made available with both 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox options. The only variant of Hyundai Accent on sale is GL, which is available with both the engine options with both gearbox options.
This single GL variant of the Hyundai Accent comes with bare basic features and is not as well loaded as the Accent or Verna sold in other Asian markets. This variant packs in a kit like the 2-DIN audio system with four speakers, power windows, and manual air conditioning.
Hyundai Accent Safety
The Philippines-spec Hyundai Accent gets the compulsory safety features such as dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and reverse parking sensors.
Hyundai Accent Fuel Consumption
Both the petrol and diesel engine options of the Hyundai Accent are quire fuel economic in general. While the petrol engine promises a fuel efficiency figure of 14.3 km/l, the diesel-powered engine returns 23.8 km/l.

Hyundai Accent Pros and Cons
Hyundai Accent Pros
- Modern exterior design – Despite it missing on a number of key features like LED elements, alloy wheels, and even fog lamps, the aerodynamic and sleek design of the Hyundai Accent is surely worth the look.
- Powerful and efficient engines – Both the petrol and diesel engine options of the Hyundai Accent are not only powerful and refined but also score very well on the front of efficiency.
- Good build quality – The lack of features doesn’t strip much of the desirability off from the Hyundai Accent, as it exudes good fit and finish levels.
Hyundai Accent Cons
- Lacks many features – The Philippines-spec Hyundai Accent lacks a number of features that are available as standard in the global version of the sedan, making it look pale and quite dated from the inside.
- Limited rear-seat space – The Hyundai Accent has a limited amount of space on offer for the rear occupants, due to the limited knee room.
