Mitsubishi Montero Sport Overview
If there is one model which has been instrumental in establishing the Mitsubishi Philippines in the car market, it has to be the Montero Sport. Also known as Pajero Sport in some other parts of the world, the Mitsubishi Montero Sport is the highest selling product from the Japanese car giant in the Philippines, and is also the most sought after model in the used car market from Mitsubishi. This premium midsize SUV, which is engineered around a ladder-on-frame chassis, takes on the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Everest, Isuzu mu-X and Nissan Terra.
Mitsubishi Montero Sport History
After establishing itself in the Philippines car market in an organized way, Mitsubishi brought down the second generation model of the Montero Sport in the country soon after its global launch in 2008. Though the first generation model of the Mitsubishi Montero Sport was on sale in the global markets since 1995, it was never brought to the Philippines.
With an upmarket interior cabin over its rivals at that time, and with proven and rugged mechanicals under the skin, the Mitsubishi Montero Sport soon became a crowd favourite, and the highest selling Mitsubishi model in no time. This second generation model was given a mild facelift in 2012, which saw the SUV getting a reworked front fascia and few features on the inside.
Come 2015, and Mitsubishi brought the all new third generation Montero Sport, which looked much swankier and sleeker than the model it replaced. This version of the Montero Sport is still in the continuous production run, and even received its first facelift in 2019.
Mitsubishi Montero Sport Highlight
Mitsubishi has made the Montero Sport available in a total of four different variants, which are namely GLX MT 2WD, GLS AT 2WD, GT AT 2WD, and GT AT 4WD. All the variants come blessed with a potent and reliable 2.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine under their hoods, which is capable of putting up 181 PS of maximum power and 430 Nm of peak torque. The base GLX MT 2WD variant comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox, while the rest of the variants have an 8-speed automatic gearbox as standard. Also, apart from the top-spec GT AT 4WD, which gets an on-demand four wheel drive system, all the other lower three variants have rear wheel drive systems.
The top-spec GT AT 4WD variant of the Mitsubishi Montero Sport is equipped with all the modern state-of-the-art features like touchscreen infotainment system, leather upholstery, electric tailgate, LED headlamps and tail lamps, automatic climate control, powered driver’s seat and more.
