Suzuki Ertiga Overview
With the Ertiga, Suzuki Philippines proved that it is capable of making more premium, appealing and family oriented MPVs, and not just micro entry level bare basic MPVs. The bigger size and more premium appeal over the more affordable Suzuki APV gave the Ertiga an upper hand and attracted more fleet operators and family oriented buyers. The Suzuki Ertiga was launched in the Philippines back in 2012, and now is in its second generation avatar.
Suzuki Ertiga History
Suzuki tried to cash in the momentum gained by its more premium hatchback, the Swift, and decided to introduce a compact MPV cars based on its platform. This led to the birth of Suzuki Ertiga, which was positioned over the Suzuki APV and has been serving as the flagship MPV from the Japanese car maker till date.
Back in 2012, the Suzuki Ertiga was introduced with a standard petrol engine in four different variants – GA MT, GL MT, GL AT, and GLX AT. This generation of the Suzuki Ertiga was given a mild makeover in 2016, which saw the MPV receiving a revised front nose and slight changes to boot design.
The beginning of the year 2019 saw the arrival of an all new second generation Suzuki Ertiga, with an all-new sleeker and much more contemporary design, completely reworked interior cabin, addition of a few more features and an all new engine under its hood. However, the variant lineup from the previous generation model was retained, and the Ertiga continued to be made available in GA MT, GL MT, GL AT, and GLX AT trims.
Suzuki Ertiga Highlight
As mentioned above, the four different variants of the Suzuki Ertiga currently available are GA MT, GL MT, GL AT, and GLX AT. While the base GA MT variant is preferred by fleet operators and cab drivers for its affordability, the more premium GL and GLX are looked upon by family oriented buyers for the additional features they are offering.
The currently available second generation Suzuki Ertiga now comes with sleeker front grille, sleeker projector headlamps, sporty fog lamp housings, 15-inch machined alloy wheels and vertically long tail lamps with LED inserts. On the inside too, the all black cabin of the Suzuki Ertiga is equipped with features like a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, steering mounted audio and Bluetooth controls, automatic climate control with rear AC vents and more.
The new second generation Suzuki Ertiga ditched the 1.4-litre petrol motor for a bigger, more powerful and more refined 1.5-litre four cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. Available with both 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmission options across the range, the Suzuki Ertiga’s engine makes 104 PS of maximum power and 138 Nm of maximum torque.
Suzuki Ertiga Safety
The Suzuki Ertiga is targeted to budget oriented mass buyers, so it has been packed with all the essential safety features which one expects from a car of this class. The compact MPV has been given only the compulsory features like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors with reverse camera and ISOFIX mounts for child seats.
Suzuki Ertiga Fuel Consumption
The 1.5-litre petrol engine introduced in the Suzuki Ertiga’s second generation model is not only more powerful, but also promises enhanced fuel efficiency over the 1.4-litre powertrain of the first generation model it replaced. The MPV promises 19.01 kmpl for the manual variants and 17.99 kmpl for the automatic ones.
