Suzuki Swift Overview
It is the Swift which has managed to put Suzuki back in the map of popularity and success when it comes to hatchbacks. The Suzuki Swift, with its youthful styling, fun to drive character and economical to run nature, has been ticking all the boxes of many first time car owners ever since its arrival in the Philippines with the first ever generation itself. The premium Suzuki Hatchback is currently in its third generation avatar, and continues to enthrall with its positive virtues, which cemented its popularity in all the global markets.
Suzuki Swift History
Prior to the arrival of Swift, Suzuki was known as a car maker of boring and cheap to run and maintain small cars. However, Suzuki tried to change this perception by introducing the first ever generation model of Swift in 2007 in the Philippines. This mover turned out to be a masterstroke from Suzuki, as it helped the Japanese car maker in attracting more and more buyers, particularly the younger car owners.
In 2012, Suzuki replaced the first generation model with the all-new global second generation model, which grew slightly bigger in size, but remained quintessentially a Swift with an evolved design sticking true to its original silhouette. This generation too continued the success streak of the model it replaced. Keeping in view the arising competition from the rival car makers, Suzuki eventually brought in the third generation Swift in 2018. While the silhouette remained true to the original Swift, it again grew bigger in dimensions and brought in a much more youthfulness to the overall design in and out.
Suzuki Swift Highlight
The Suzuki Swift sits right at the top of the hatchback lineup from Suzuki Philippines, and is pitched as a value for money and affordable option to other premium hatchbacks like Honda City, Toyota Yaris and Mitsubishi Mirage. The currently available third generation Suzuki Swift has been made available in the Philippines car market in a single GL variant, which is being offered with both 5-speed manual as well as CVT transmission options.
The powertrain employed for the Suzuki Swift is the tried and tested 1.2-litre four cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, which belts out maximum power and torque outputs of 83 PS and 113 Nm respectively. The hatchback is not as heavily equipped as other premium hatchbacks it takes on the rivalry with, but it surely gets the necessary comfort and convenience features like daytime running LEDs, 16-inch alloy wheels, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and tilt adjustable steering mounted audio and Bluetooth controls.
Suzuki Swift Safety
The Suzuki Swift ticks all the boxes when it comes to offering the basics of the safety on board, like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, brake assist and ISOFIX mounts for child seats.
Suzuki Swift Fuel Consumption
The Swift has always followed the footsteps of its siblings when it comes to delivering best in class fuel economy figures, despite being the most fun to drive Suzuki hatchback till date. The current generation Suzuki Swift is capable of returning a good fuel efficiency of 20.4 km/l.
New Suzuki Swift Fuel Consumptions
- Suzuki Swift 2021: 20.4 KM/L
Used Suzuki Swift Fuel Consumptions

- Suzuki Swift 2017: 18.1 KM/L
Suzuki Swift Pros and Cons
Suzuki Swift Pros
- Youthful design – All the iterations of the Suzuki Swift have always had youthful looking designs, with the current one being the best of them all with slightly sloping down roofline and recessed rear door handles, the latter of which manages to give it a two-door look.
- Peppy and efficient engine – The 1.2-litre petrol engine has always given the Suzuki Swift a peppy character, with its smooth power delivery and efficient nature working in its favor.
- Precise driving dynamics – The Suzuki Swift, with its accurately weighted steering and slightly stiffer suspension setup, is one great handling machine on four wheels.
Suzuki Swift Cons
- Lacks features – Compared to the version of Swift sold in other Asian markets, the Philippines-spec Suzuki lacks a number of features, which is a missed opportunity for this third generation model.
- Lazy CVT gearbox – The CVT gearbox feels good and comfortable for low urban speeds, but lacks the zing for enthusiastic highway driving.
