Toyota Corolla Altis Overview
Easily the most successful car in the history of Toyota, the Corolla nameplate has given the kind of world recognition the Japanese carmaker is enjoying in current times. In all these years, the Toyota Corolla has emerged as the highest-selling car all over the world, and that is all due to a number of reasons, the most prominent ones of which are ease of ownership and driving and impeccable reliability. For the last two decades, the Toyota Corolla is sold as Corolla Altis in many South East Asian markets, including that of the Philippines.
Toyota Corolla Altis History
The Toyota Corolla started its journey in the Philippines car market back in 1991, with the arrival of the globally seventh-generation model in 1991, which was subsequently replaced by the eighth-generation model in 1995. This eighth-generation model continued to be on sale till 2000, and then Toyota decided to make a significant change to the model altogether.
With the arrival of the all-new ninth-generation model of the Toyota Corolla in 2000, Toyota Philippines decided to market the car as the all-new Toyota Corolla Altis. This model was replaced after a successful run for 6 years with the tenth generation model in 2006.
Since then Toyota has been introducing new generations of Corolla Altis, with the globally eleventh generation of the car arriving here in 2012 and the current twelfth generation model in 2018. In all these years, while the overall mechanicals under the skin have seen very little changes, the Toyota Corolla Altis has witnessed significant changes to its visual appeal in and out with every surpassing generation. The current twelfth generation of the Toyota Corolla Altis is the first one to get a hybrid powertrain for the Philippines car market.
Toyota Corolla Altis Highlight
With the current twelfth generation model, the Toyota Corolla Altis is available in the Philippines car market for the first time with a hybrid powertrain. Yes, the Toyota Corolla Altis is being offered with a total of four different variants – E MT, G CVT, V CVT, and Hybrid CVT.
The E, G, and V variants come blessed with a smaller 1.6-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine under their hoods, which are capable of making 121 PS of maximum power and 153 Nm of peak torque output. While the E variant gets a 6-speed manual gearbox, the G and V variants have their engines mated to a CVT gearbox.
The range-topping Hybrid CVT variant gets a more sophisticated powertrain combination of a 1.8-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine coupled to an electric motor. Married to a CVT gearbox, this powertrain combination has a combined power output of 121 PS, with its peak torque output rated at 142 Nm.
Toyota Corolla Altis Safety
The currently available Toyota Corolla Altis is the first model in the history of Corolla to get autonomous safety features, such as pre-collision warning, automatic high beam, lane tracing assist, lane departure warning, and radar cruise control, all of which though are restricted only for the range-topping Hybrid CVT variant. The list of safety features also includes other noteworthy additions, which are available in other variants as well, like the front, side, curtain, and driver knee airbags, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control, traction control, hill start assist, reverse parking sensors with camera and tire pressure monitoring system.
Toyota Corolla Altis Fuel Consumption
