In addition, Volkswagen is also selling the hatchback version of the Santana, christened as Santana GTS. However, Volkswagen is keen on expanding its footprint in the Philippines car market by bringing in more products in future, including SUVs like T-Cross.

Named Santana GTS, it was essentially the same car as Santana sedan, sans the stretched boot. With the Santana GTS, Volkswagen tried to increase its volumes in the Philippines, which was already shrinking due to the rising popularity and acceptance of SUVs and crossovers even in the compact car categories. Surprisingly, while Volkswagen kick-started its journey in the Philippines car market with the Polo notch, it never brought in the Polo hatchback here in the Philippines, a step that could have Volkswagen much more accessible to the masses.
