Nissan Philippines is ready to turn in a new leaf as the Japanese automotive brand brings its updated Leaf electric vehicle (EV) to the 10th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS).
Its attendance at the country’s biggest EV event is the first time that Filipinos get to see the refreshed model in the metal.
At the brand’s booth was Nissan Philippines Training Specialist Cyrus Macasera, who showed Carmudi Philippines the changes its customers can expect from the new Leaf.
Starting at the front, the new Nissan Leaf now wears the company’s new badge complemented by a new V-motion grille flanked by striking new headlamps. The side profile of the Leaf is highlighted by a fresh set of wheels donning a sportier design. Lastly, the rear now has a spoiler that extends to the sides of the window at the back. The new brand emblem can also be seen here.
However, the most notable upgrades the new Nissan Leaf gets are the ones found inside the EV.
Providing would-be owners better vision behind the wheel are a host of cameras. Two are placed under the side mirrors, one under the Nissan emblem at the rear, and another under the EV’s spoiler.
What these cameras do is provide drivers with a 360-degree view of the vehicle for easier maneuvering when in tight spots.
For those particular with what the car hides under the hood, Macasera said that the new Nissan Leaf’s powertrain is the same as the old one. That means it still sports the same AC Synchronous electric motor powered by a 40 kilowatt-hour (kWh) laminated lithium-ion battery which makes 148 horsepower (hp) and 320Nm of torque.
The initial batch of the new Nissan Leaf units just arrived in the Philippines with the two being displayed at the brand’s booth.
Carmudi Philippines was informed that about 30 Nissan Leaf units (2022 model year) have been sold in the Philippines since its introduction.
He added that some owners even used their Leaf EV examples to power their homes during the a typhoon in Cebu using a power converter.
