16-year-old girl sets fastest slalom record in 2020 Porsche 718 Spyder

The Guinness World Record has declared 16-year-old Chloe Chambers, a seasoned kart driver with seven years of experience, as the new title holder for Fastest Vehicle Slalom.

Beating out a previous record set in China in 2018, Chambers set a new benchmark pace, weaving through 51 equally-spaced cones in a lap time of 47.45secs.

Chambers achieved this feat behind the wheel of a 2020 Porsche 718 Spyder, which was completely stock, right down to its tires.

“It looks easy, but it’s really not – to weave between 50 cones as fast as possible, trying to beat a record time and knowing I couldn’t touch a single one for the run to count – I definitely felt the pressure,” Chambers said. “Everything came together on my final run; the car worked beautifully and I found the grip I needed. Thank you to my family and to Porsche for supporting and believing in me.”

Despite coming from a karting background, Chambers was able to quickly adapt to driving a car, quickly gaining confidence and finding the right balance, in the process opting for a manual 718 Spyder instead of an automatic for more direct control.

“We couldn’t be more proud that Chloe set the record,” said Klaus Zellmer, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America. “From the whole Porsche family we send our heartfelt congratulations – we’re pleased to have been able to support Chloe with her ambitious record attempt and share her relief that it was successful.”

Chambers’ record-breaking run was completed last August on an independently-certified track consisting of 51 cones spaced 50-feet apart. Automotive technology manufacturer Racelogic handled timekeeping duties for the run, which was supervised by an adjudicator from Guinness World Records.

The 2020 Porsche 718 Spyder that Chambers used houses a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter 6-cylinder boxer engine that sends out 414hp and 420Nm through a 6-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels. Noteworthy undercarriage systems include a track-bred Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) setup with adaptive dampers, helper springs on the rear axle and a ride height 30mm lower than a standard 718 Boxster or Cayman.

Pinoy slalom drivers may attempt their own records with their choice of Porsche, available here at Carmudi.
