2019 Toyota Corolla Sport is a Sleek and Smart Hatch
You're looking at the 2019 Toyota Corolla Sport, a hatchback that is both sleek and smart. However, this car is only available in Japan. But heck, this Corolla is a headturner and it could really put up a serious challenge to the Mazda 3 hatch that we have here in the Philippine market.
Up front, the Corolla Sport looks like a car that's ready to intimidate others through a staredown. It is fitted with sharp-looking headlights along with a wide mesh front grille and angular bumpers. Distinctive character lines, which runs from side to the rear, compliments the vehicle's aggressive front design. The rear has blacked-out taillights, a large bumper, a spoiler, and dual exhaust pipes.
The interior of this sporty Toyota features a black and red theme. It also has a straightforward cabin and the center console includes only the essential buttons and functions. Placed right at the center is a touchscreen infotainment system that has a glossy black frame. The Corolla Sport also comes with bucket seats, which has enhanced side bolsters for added support when the car is tackling winding roads.
As said earlier, this car is a smart car—thanks to Toyota's Data Communication Module (DCM) and T-Connect Service. With that, the Japanese automaker said that the vehicle is the first-gen connected Corolla. The DCM and T-Connect Service comes with a bunch of smart technology such as the e-Care Driving Guidance. This feature let the driver receive guidance from the Toyota dealer when the car's warning lights are activated. Another smart feature of this car is the e-Care Health Check Report, which allows drivers to check engine oil and battery lever through their smartphone.
In addition, the car also has the Helpnet feature, which is connected to the airbag. This feature automatically connect drivers with police, fire, or emergency department when the car's airbags are deployed. The system makes decisions based on vehicle data to know whether a medical helicopter is needed. The 2019 Corolla Sport is powered by a 1.8-liter hybrid engine that delivers 97 hp and 142 Nm of torque. This car is also available in a 1.2-liter turbo engine that puts out 114 hp and 185 Nm of torque. The 1.2-liter turbo engine is connected to a 10-speed sport sequential automatic transmission.
What do you think about this Corolla Sport? Should Toyota bring this car in the Philippine market? We could see a rivalry between the Corolla Sport and the Mazda 3 hatch if Toyota Philippines does bring this car to the market.
