2020 Audi A5 Arrives with Refreshed Design, New Tech, and Lower Price
Audi has pulled the tarp off the 2020 Audi A5, and a more aggressive look immediately leaps out, courtesy of more character lines at the hood, a humongous blacked-out grille, and sharper angles all around.
The 2020 A5 boasts a lot of changes compared to the predecessor. For starters, gone are the chrome slats of the old grille in favor of an all-black honeycomb design that’s flatter and wider this time around. This gives the car a striking and sporty look, as does the larger air inlets and bold protruding blade at the lower bumper.
All exterior lights come in LED, while Premium Plus buyers can opt for matrix-style headlights. Matrix-design LED headlights with Audi laser light are standard on the Prestige trim, which include dynamic front turn signals, as well as animation for headlights and taillights that feature leaving and coming home animations.
Inside, horizontal lines dictate the design of the new A5 cabin, with all of them seemingly directing to the 10.1-inch MMI touchscreen display that serves as the center point of the instrument panel. Powered by the all-new MIB 3 system, infotainment is now ten times faster, with higher graphical resolution and quicker processing speeds than the MIB 2 installed in the outgoing model. Voice control adds further convenience to the whole experience.
All A5 models are standard-equipped with a robust 2.0-liter TFSI engine that delivers up to 248 hp and 370 Nm of torque. A 7-speed S tronic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive allow the A5 Coupe to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmh in 5.8 secs, the Sportback 5.9 secs, and the Cabriolet 6.2 secs.
Meanwhile, the S5 trim is equipped with a 3.0-liter TFSI engine that dishes out 349 hp and 500 Nm of torque, allowing a 0-100 sprint in 4.6 seconds for the Coupe, 4.7 secs for the Sportback, and 4.9 secs for the Cabriolet. An 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission handles the S5’s shifting duties.
But more than the styling and functional updates, the biggest story for the 2020 Audi A5 is the price, because the refreshed lineup got a whole lot cheaper this year. The 2020 A5 coupe, convertible, and Sportback starts at $43,895 (approx. PHP 2.23 million)—that’s USD 1300 (PHP 66k) less than the 2019 models. The S5 coupe and Sportback are down USD 500 (over PHP 25k), at USD 52,895 (approx. PHP 2.69 million), while the S5 convertible offers a USD 3400 (over PHP 172k) drop at USD 61,195 (PHP 3.11 million).
Some owners of the 2019 are likely to suffer buyer’s remorse over this.
