2020 Ford Super Duty Chassis Cabs Look Ready to Rumble

Let the heavy duty truck wars commence! Ford announces the 2020 lineup of Super Duty chassis cabs, and with what’s in store, it appears that its rivalry with other heavy-duty haulers such as the Chevrolet Silverado, Ram HD and GMC Sierra will soon heat up to ten.

Built to be even more capable, powerful, and work-ready, the lineup comes in three powertrain configurations including a 6.2-liter gas V8, 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel, and the range-topping 7.9-liter V8 gas power mill.

As the gas engine with the biggest displacement in its class, the 7.3L V8 thrusts the Super Duty to a dyno-certified 350 hp and a best-in-class 635 Nm of torque. The 6.7L Power Stroke diesel produces 330 hp and 1119 Nm of torque. The flex-fuel 6.2L V8 gasoline comes standard on the F-350 models.

“We don’t operate in a vacuum in Ford commercial trucks, we talk to the customers, dealers and upfitters who know how hard our trucks are worked,” said Nathan Oscarson, commercial truck marketing manager, “That kind of real-world feedback helps us engineer the level of commercial trucks that the industry demands.”

Shifting comes by way of a 10-speed TorqShift automatic gearbox, which is the standard transmission mated to all the engines. A 10-bolt Live-Drive Power Takeoff (PTO) Provision with Mobile Mode feature, which comes standard in the 6.7L and an option in the rest, provides best-in-class maximum 407 Nm of stationary torque.

“From the 6.2 V8 to the 7.3L V8 to the heavy duty 10-speed, these powertrains are always in the sweet spot of the power band for maximum efficiency and capability in towing and hauling,” said Greg Stout, heavy duty drivetrain manager.

Though workhorse-centric, the 2020 Ford Super Duty Chassis Cab also makes sure its tech is updated to compete with its fiercest rivals. Highpoints include FordPass Connect with 4GLTE Wi-Fi, SYNC 3, Pre-Collision Assist with Automated Emergency Braking, and Audible Lane Departure Warning.

Other goodies include auto hi-beam headlamps, fold-flat/locking load floor, an optional factory-installed programmable upfitter interface module, updated Ford Telematics and Data Services app, and Operator-Commanded Regeneration with Active Inhibit, among others.

Super Duty Chassis cab models are now available to purchase in North America.
