2020 Honda Accord Scores 5-Star Rating from ASEAN NCAP

The 2020 Honda Accord has just earned the maximum five-star safety rating from the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP), reinforcing its reputation as Honda’s premium sedan that offers topnotch safety in every journey.

The 10th generation Honda Accord is equipped with Honda SENSING, an advanced driving assist system that provides active support to help the driver avoid a collision or mitigate the impact of a crash on life and limb.

Aside from Honda SENSING, the latest Accord comes with a lot of new safety features that are appearing in the car for the first time, including:

  • Parking Assist – makes reverse and parallel parking easier by providing automatic steering assistance
  • Multi View Camera – assists driving by covering blind spots from the driver’s seat
  • Cross Traffic Monitor – enhances driver confidence when reversing while the view from the driver’s seat is obstructed.

Thanks to these firsts, the all-new Honda Accord managed an overall score of 91.79 out of 100, broken down as follows:

  • 49.07 for adult occupant protection (AOP)
  • 23.28 for child occupant protection (COP)
  • 19.44 for safety assist technologies (SATs)

To get the five-star rating, the 2020 Honda Accord had to endure a barrage of tests including frontal offset impact test, side impact test, and safety feature evaluation.

Other standard safety features found in the new Accord include a body structure designed using Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) plus a full range of active and passive safety technologies such as six airbags; Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA); Hill Start Assist (HSA); Emergency Stop Signal (ESS); Multi-angle Rearview Camera; Electric Parking Brake (EPB); Automatic Brake Hold; and Honda LaneWatch.

This is the second year in a row that the Honda Accord managed to secure the ASEAN NCAP’s five-star safety rating, as last year’s model, the 2019 Honda Accord was also able to accomplish the same feat. That said, the 2020 Honda Accord, which was released locally in September of this year, is far from the only car in Honda’s lineup to receive the highly coveted top rating from ASEAN NCAP. Other winners include the 2017 Honda CR-V and the 2016 models of the Honda Civic, Honda Brio, and Honda Brio Amaze.
