2020 Lexus RX Finally Revealed

The 2020 Lexus RX finally makes its world debut. As the luxury brand's core model and pioneer of the luxury SUV segment, the RX receives a number of updates, especially with regards to styling, safety, and tech.

Exterior-wise, the new model looks pretty similar to the outgoing model, but there are obvious changes to the front and rear fascias--sleeker lines, slimmer lights, and a more smoothed outlook, all mirroring the changes done to both the Lexus' LC coupe and LS sedan. The grille gets a new mesh design, abandoning the horizontal design of the previous LC for the new crisscross pattern that reflects Lexus' current design language.

Inside, captain's chairs replace the full bench that used to occupy the second row. Meanwhile, the third row gets more adjustable, adding to the flexibility, versatility, and added comfort of the new seating configuration.

The infotainment system gets the biggest update, which now sports a touchscreen that finally boasts Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Baidu CarLife functionalities. Voice control is enabled via native cloud connection or headphones. As for navigation, drivers can choose either Lexus' version or their own app. Those who enjoy the Lexus-original remote touch interface will be happy to know that the 2020 RX retains the feature, albeit it is now trackpad-type as opposed to controller-type.

Lexus also did some enhancements to the suspension system, making the body more rigid while adding new shock absorbers and a brake control system. All of these are designed to improve ride comfort, handling, and steering feel.

The safety system is another major area of improvement for the new RX, beginning with the new BladeScan Type Adaptive Highbeam System (AHS) and the latest version of the Lexus Safety System +. The BladeScan system enables the headlamp's LEDs to shine onto a spinning mirror to focus the beam ahead, effectively getting rid of the glare that often blinds oncoming drivers.

The latest version of the Lexus Safety System + features improved or new accident prevention technologies including a Pre-Collision System, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), Road Sign Assist, and the aforementioned Adaptive Highbeam System.

The 2020 Lexus RX is scheduled to go on sale late August 2019.
