The European-born badge MG has earned a five-star rating from New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN-NCAP) with their best-selling SUV, the MG ZS.
Using the assessors’ latest evaluation system (2017-2020 protocol), the MG ZS bagged the perfect rating after scoring an overall of 81 percent. It received an adult occupant protection rating of 44.82, 20.9 on child occupant protection and 15.28 on safety assist.
For the test, the ASEAN NCAP used the MG ZS sold in Thailand and Vietnam market—specifically, the MG ZS 1.5L C+. This simply means that the model tested bore some similarities to those sold in the Philippines.
The 2020 version of the gasoline-fed SUV, the ASEAN NCAP noted in its report, is equipped with a “minimum of 2 airbags, Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Stability Control and Seatbelt Reminder System as standard fitment across its variants.”
“In the assessment, the MG ZS has successfully achieved an overall score of 81.00 points which makes it eligible for 5-Star ASEAN NCAP rating,” the assessor’s report stated.
To note, MG is now under Chinese automaker SAIC Motor Corporation Limited. In the Philippines, MG distributorship is now under The Covenant Car Company (TCCCI), which also holds automotive brands such as Volvo and Chevrolet.
