2021 Hyundai Sonata receives N Line treatment

Hyundai is certainly putting its high performance arm, the N Line, to good use these days. After beefing up the Elantra sedan and upcoming i30 hatch with their respective N Line treatments, the South Korean car brand now sets its sights on boosting its midsize sedan with more oomph.

Hyundai Motor Company has just revealed the N Line version of the 2021 Sonata, and goes so far as to call it “the hottest-looking sedan on the road today.”

“The 2021 Sonata N Line will attract more customers to both the rock solid Sonata lineup and our increasingly popular N Line sub-brand. Sonata N Line will appeal to customers who desire sporty styling in a sedan package,” said SangYup Lee, Head of the Hyundai Global Design Center.

Following the brand’s Sensuous Sportiness design philosophy, the 2021 Sonata N Line exterior bares a cascading grille, angle-y front fascia with three air intakes, burly sideskirts, rear diffuser, quad exhaust pipes, and N Line badging. Some blacked-out trims also find their way to the front and rear bumpers. Unique 19-inch alloy wheels keep the vehicle firmly rooted to the ground.

Inside, a dark chrome color theme separates the Sonata N Line from the lower variants, while N Line stitching appears on the steering wheel and sport seats.

Power-wise, the Sonata N Line carries a 2.5-liter turbo engine that makes up to 290hp and 420Nm of torque, which is supposedly more powerful than the standard Sonata. That engine is mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, just like its standard sibling. Exclusive dampers, springs and anti-roll bars, lower the ride height by at least 5mm. The N-Line Sonata also gets bigger brake rotors.

The 2021 Hyundai Sonata N Line is expected to go on sale in the US early next year. Unfortunately, Hyundai Philippines doesn’t have any N Line models on offer, and the closest it comes to a performance model is the Veloster Turbo, which retail for PHP1.8 million.
