Mazda North America is now accepting reservations for the upcoming 2021 edition of their CX-3 crossover, slated to arrive next month at dealerships all over the US.
Available in a lone variant—Sport—the updated crossover doesn’t cost a single cent more than the model it replaces, with a starting price of USD20,640 (approx. PHP 1.01 million before taxes and fees).
No update can be seen in the powertrain—under the hood is the same four-cylinder Skyactiv-G 2.0 gasoline engine that mills 148hp and 195Nm of torque. This engine is again mated to a Skyactiv-Drive 6-speed automatic gearbox with manual shift mode and Sport Mode that sends power to the front wheels. Running on 16-inch rubbers, the car is supported by a MacPherson Strut at the front and torsion beam axle at the rear.
That said, a lot remains unchanged between the old and new CX-3. Nevertheless, there are plenty of changes to speak of, although these are mostly invisible to the eye. Features such as the updated Mazda Connect infotainment system, active driving display, and six-speaker audio system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth connectivity are now offered as standard. The push-button start, electronic parking brake with auto-hold function, and remote keyless illuminated entry are also on hand.
The safety suite has also been upgraded to include more standard features. The i-Activsense gear, including smart brake support, radar cruise control, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, high beam control, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning and blind spot monitors, are now immediately available on the 2021 CX-3. New in the suite is the night pedestrian detection system, which has been added to enhance the onboard collision warning feature.
Auto-leveling capabilities have also been added to the dusk-sensing LED headlights.
Mazda brings the entire Sport package together with a blacked-out louver-type front grille, 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels, a roof spoiler, dual stainless-steel exhaust pipes, and shark fin antenna.
While the 2021 Mazda CX-3 will land at US dealers in September, we have no word yet on when it will reach Philippine shores. We currently have the 2020 model available, which has as starting price of PHP1.32 million.
