Ever wondered what the Land Cruiser would look like in a tux? Well, wonder no more, because Lexus just debuted the 2022 LX 600 — a luxury SUV that shares the same body-on-frame GA-F platform that underpins the Toyota LC 300.
According to Lexus, the new LX 600 stands as the ultimate sport utility flagship in their growing and diversified model portfolio.
Now on its fourth generation, the LX 600 pursues a blend of athletic performance, accessible functionality, and striking beauty. LX’s design is optimized proportions that combine sophistication with power and presence.
Outside, the luxury SUV dons a three-dimensional spindle grille comprised of seven sets of floating bars to create a seamless and frame-free structure. The side radiator grilles also have large openings to ensure cooling performance and are shaped to provide a high-level rectifying effect.
The headlamps feature L-shaped clearance lamps with daytime running lamp function. To complement the redesigned grille, the headlights have evolved into a three-dimensional shape, creating a sense of depth and change depending on the viewing angle.
At the back end is a redesigned rear L-E-X-U-S logo flanked by similarly L-shaped rear combination lamps.
The new LX 600 rides on 22-inch forged aluminum wheels.
Beyond the LX’s aluminum doors is an all-new cabin designed for the utmost in comfort and usability. It is further enhanced with two available package upgrades: Ultra Luxury and F Sport.
Ultra Luxury will see Lexus’ first four-seater layout. The front seat can move forward and the seat reclining angle can be controlled up to 48 degrees.
Additionally, the rear seat display, behind the front passenger seat, can fold down to allow for forward visibility, offering a VIP seating experience with a maximum leg space of 1,100mm.
The rear seats are finished in exclusive curved headrests, seatbacks, and cushions that gently wrap around the head, hips, and lower body. Lexus says that the all-new VIP seats help to offset any lateral G-forces. Soft urethane in the seats offers superior vibration absorption even in off-road driving conditions.
Owners who opt to get the Ultra Luxury package can also expect a host of creature comfort features like sunshades, reading lights, exclusive overhead A/Cs, wireless charging, power outlets, USB and headphone jacks, as well as scratch-resistant self-healing paint-coated cupholders with lids.
The F Sport package, on the other hand, adds a touch of sportiness to the opulent SUV. Included are textured genuine leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter and custom-crafted F-designed seats.
It also adds mild exterior upgrades like 22-inch forged aluminum wheels and an F mesh design spindle grille with a jet-black chrome grille frame.
Taking center stage is the new Lexus Interface that features a 12.3-inch upper touchscreen with an added LX-exclusive seven-inch lower touchscreen. The former displays navigation, audio controls, and the Multi-Terrain Monitor during off-road driving while the latter shows the climate control screen and serves as a driving-support screen for Multi-Terrain Select.
Powering the Lexus LX 600 is an all-new high-output, high-torque, 3.5-liter V6 twin-turbo gasoline mill mated to a Direct Shift 10-speed automatic. It produces 409hp and 650Nm of torque.
The highly capable powertrain is complemented by a slew of driving modes including Auto, Dirt, Sand, Mud, Deep Snow, and Rock.
Various driver-assist features like crawl control, downhill assist control, electric power steering, electronically controlled brakes, active height control suspension and adaptive variable suspension, as well as wheel, tire, and rear Torsen limited slip differential are also available.
In terms of safety, the all-new Lexus LX 600 is equipped with the Lexus Safety System+ 2.5. It features a suite of key active safety features such as a pre-collision system which includes frontal collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and pedestrian detection and bicyclist detection.
The LX 600 also has lane departure alert with steering assist, lane tracing assist, intelligent high beams, road sign assist, and the all-speed dynamic radar cruise control.
The fullsize luxury SUV is scheduled to arrive at US dealers in the first quarter of 2022.
