The European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) gave the 2022 Lexus NX a five-star rating following the evaluation conducted recently. The variant used in the testing was the Lexus NX 350h.
Based on the thorough examination made by the organization, the Lexus NX scored 83 percent on the adult occupant and vulnerable road users tests; 87 percent on child occupant assessment; and 91 percent on safety assist.
The rating achieved by the model was due to the host of safety technologies that are fitted in the vehicle.
The five-door sport utility vehicle has numerous airbags fitted inside the cabin (front, knee, side head, side chest, side pelvis and center) as well as Isofix, seatbelt reminder as well as automatic emergency braking system that can detect vulnerable road users and other cars on the road.
Further, the 2022 Lexus NX also features speed assistance and lane assist system.
“The Lexus NX, available as normal and plug-in hybrid, shares the same platform as the RAV4 from its parent company Toyota. While the car performed well in tests and scored enough points to qualify for five stars, Lexus’ engineers did not provide all technical information normally shared with Euro NCAP, leaving a careless impression that is atypical for a Toyota brand,” the voluntary non-profit organization said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the UK arm of Lexus said that while the NX “meets the key criteria of Euro NCAP testing, it goes further to provide safe driving and peace of mind.”
“For example, with the Safe Exit Assist, it marks a world first in linking operation of its smooth electric e-latch door opening system to its blind spot monitor; if the monitor detects traffic approaching from the rear, it will cancel the door opening to avoid a collision risk. Lexus Safety System+ also provides adaptive cruise control, with performance improved so that it can react more quickly to traffic cutting-in and follow a more natural line through bends, with speed adjusted in a way that feels more natural to the driver,” the company shared.
“While Lexus Safety System+ is fitted as standard to all European versions of the new NX, owners of Takumi grade models further benefit from an Extended Safety Package (also available as an option on F Sport models). This includes Lane Change Assistance (LCA), which provides automatic lane change steering when the driver uses the turn indicators in highway driving, and Front Cross-Traffic Alert, which uses radar monitoring to detect and warn the driver of traffic approaching from either side when emerging from a junction at low speed,” it added.
