The Lexus executive sedan has been updated with mild cabin refinements and the addition of standard Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 on all models. The update will happen as Toyota’s luxury division introduces the 2022 model year of the LS 500.
Inside, the 2022 LS 500 will now feature a new Haku interior ornamentation option that will be made available on models equipped with the Luxury or Executive Packages.
According to Lexus, the creation of Haku foil is a Japanese technique been passed down for over 400 years and involves a process of meticulously flattening a piece of metal until it becomes as thin as one ten-thousandth of a millimeter.
The end product is so thin that it must be applied by hand with utmost care and exquisite craftsmanship. The Haku foil then gives the interior of the LS 500 a delicate shine reminiscent of moonlight reflecting over ocean waves.
Its luxe interior is also accompanied by a 12.3-inch touchscreen multimedia system that sends audio to the 23-speaker Mark Levinson 2,400-watt Quantum Logic Immersion Reference Surround Sound Audio System.
The infotainment unit also comes with modern features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa compatibility.
The good-looking interior is complemented by a refined, comfortable ride. Lexus says that one of the key refinements on the latest LS includes the tuning of the suspension and chassis to help achieve a smoother, more comfortable ride without sacrificing any of the current model’s dynamic character.
Its suspension now features revised spring and damper rates tuned to improve damping performance.
Lexus also equipped the 2022 LS 500 with an Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) which features revised linear solenoids and control valves designed to provide low damping force via their enlarged internal flow path.
In addition, the diameter of the front and rear anti-roll bars have been optimized to improve the LS 500’s vehicle body roll control in turns.
Power comes from the same 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine as the outgoing model although it will now have a newly developed piston with a lip shape on the piston top and an updated wastegate control. It will be mated to a recalibrated 10-speed automatic transmission.
In terms of safety, the 2022 Lexus LS 500 will now come with a pre-collision system that includes frontal collision warning (FCW), automatic emergency braking (AEB), as well as pedestrian detection and cyclist detection.
An all-speed dynamic radar cruise control (DRCC), lane departure alert with steering assist (LDA with SA), and lane tracing assist (LTA) is also added to the suite of driver-assist features of the 2022 LS 500.
Lexus also said that the 2022 LS 500 will be offered in an F Sport package. It adds sporty aesthetic upgrades to the luxury sedan such as a wider sub-radiator grille garnish, a dedicated color for the spindle grille, and 20-inch alloy wheels with special F Sport rocker moldings.
The F Sport package also adds slight improvements in the LS 500’s handling with the latest iteration of the VDIM system, larger front and rear brakes, and the addition of variable gear ratio steering (VGRS), active rear steering, and an active stabilizer suspension.
Inside, traces of the F Sport package can also be found including the perforated-grill pattern on seat surfaces and Naguri aluminum trim elements.
The 2022 Lexus LS 500 will be offered in four variants with prices ranging from US$76,000 to US$82,850. The new LS 500 is expected to arrive in US dealerships in late 2021.
