The Macan is one of Porsche’s best-selling SUVs, especially in the US where it managed to sell over 137,000 units in just seven years. Now, the German carmaker looks to pump up these numbers by giving the Porsche Macan a host of significant updates for the 2022 year model.
According to Porsche, the 2022 Macan will be fitted with a more powerful engine than its predecessor. The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder mill mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission will give the compact SUV 261 horses and almost 400Nm of torque.
The 2022 Macan S takes things further as its 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 powerplant — formerly used by the outgoing Macan GTS model — puts out 375 horses with 519Nm of torque.
Meanwhile, the range-topping Porsche Macan GTS model will be fitted with a souped-up version of the 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine which generates 434 horsepower and 550Nm of near-instantaneous torque.
The 2022 Porsche Macan, Macan S, and Macan GTS can reach a top speed of 144mph, 160mph, and 169mph, respectively.
Befitting the new powertrains are an updated exterior styling with LED headlights, Sport Design mirrors, integrated cooling air intakes, and front trim as well as a black diffuser that complements the side blades of the new Macan.
The top-tier GTS variant will feature Sport Design side skirts, clear LED taillights, and a Sport Exhaust system with pitch-black tailpipes.
Seven new wheel designs will be offered in various wheel sizes from 19 to 21 inches. The GTS model will ride on 21-inch RS Spyder Design wheels finished in satin black.
An optional Sport Package will also be offered for the GTS model, said the automaker. The upgrade bundle adds the Sport Chrono Package, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, 18-way Adaptive Sport Seats, Sport Design mirrors with caps painted in high-gloss black, front and rear fascia as well as side skirts in satin black and 21-inch GT Design wheels shod with special high-performance tires.
With the Sport Package, the interior of the 2022 Macan GTS will feature carbon fiber elements, deviated stitching, and a greater number of Race-Tex interior accents.
Across the board, all 2022 Macan compact SUVs will feature a 10.9-inch full-HD touchscreen infotainment panel — with standard navigation and Apple CarPlay — which sits alongside an analog clock. The large screen is where you can see relevant driving information including driver-assist features like Lane Departure Warning, Park Assist, Lane Change Assist, and Blind-Spot Monitoring.
Would-be Macan owners can also experience driving behind the new GT Sport steering wheels and a redesigned gear level.
The 2022 Porsche Macan is expected to arrive in US dealerships early next year. Pricing starts at US$54,900 to US$79,900 (US$1,350 destination fee not included).
