Subaru announced that the 2022 BRZ sports car received the 2022 Top Safety Pick+ recognition from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
In a statement, the automotive car manufacturer’s arm in the United States said that the nameplate secured the IIHS top honor due to the EyeSight Driver Assist Technology that now comes as standard equipment on models with an automatic gearbox offering.
According to Subaru, the 2022 BRZ got the “highest possible rating for all crashworthiness and crash avoidance evaluations.”
“Headlights on all models achieved the top rating for their performance. Models equipped with EyeSight Driver Assist Technology earned superior ratings in both the vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations,” the company explained.
Aside from the 2022 BRZ, Subaru of America also won several IIHS awards thanks to the models mentioned below:
Subaru explained that the vehicles must have the following ratings to be a Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ awardee:
“We are thrilled the all-new BRZ received a Top Safety Pick + award right out of the gate,” Subaru of America President and Chief Executive Officer Thomas Doll was quoted as saying.
“Our top priority with BRZ is to provide customers with an exciting and engaging sports car with the highest standards in safety,” he added.
The 2022 BRZ is powered by a 2.4-liter naturally-aspirated Boxer engine paired to a six-speed manual or automatic slushbox. The power mill has the capacity to deliver 228 horses.
Since 2013, Subaru has already received 62 Top Safety Pick+ awards.
Locally, Motor Image Pilipinas Inc. has officially launched the latest iteration of the BRZ at the 2022 Manila International Auto Show.
