2022 Toyota Prius Prime delivers EV-Hybrid harmony

The US-spec 2022 Toyota Prius Prime is the latest iteration of the Japanese carmaker’s best-selling eco-friendly model. The 2022 Prius Prime delivers the best of both worlds with a fuel-efficient hybrid driving mode and a zero-emission EV driving mode.

In EV Auto Mode, the 2022 Prius Prime gives owners about 25 miles of range which Toyota says is sufficient to handle daily commuting distances for many US drivers. EV Auto Mode will favor the Prius Prime’s electric capability as much as possible.

However, in situations where it is more efficient to run the gasoline engine like climbing steep inclines, the 2022 Prius Prime will automatically switch to the extremely efficient gas engine.

In addition, when the battery reaches a certain reduced state of charge in EV mode, the Prius Prime automatically and seamlessly switches to hybrid mode.

In hybrid mode, the 2022 Prius Prime combines the output of the gasoline engine and electric motor through a planetary-type continuously variable transmission.

One of the main advantages offered by the 2022 Prius Prime is its practicality. In fact, Toyota itself says that owners do not need to invest in expensive equipment for home charging. Owners can use the supplied cable to recharge the Prius Prime into a standard household outlet.

And just in case you forgot to charge your Prius Prime, its intelligent system will switch to hybrid mode, taking advantage of the fuel in your gas tank.

The 2022 Toyota Prius Prime, like many current-generation Toyota passenger vehicles, was built on the TNGA-K platform architecture. Hot-stamped and high tensile steels, which allow for intricate forms that are both lightweight and strong, are used extensively throughout the Prius Prime body. Additional weight savings come from a lightweight carbon-fiber rear liftgate.

It also uses energy-conserving quad LED headlights which contributes to the 2022 Prius Prime’s energy and fuel efficiency.

The US-spec 2022 Prius Prime is offered in three variants: LE, XLE, and Limited. They are priced at US$28,220, US$30,000, and US$34,000 respectively.

Locally, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is offering the Prius in a single hybrid variant that packs a 1.8-liter engine priced at P2,339,000.
