2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI, Golf R earn Safety Pick honor from IIHS

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has given both the 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI and Golf R their respective Safety Pick awards. The former, a High Beam Control-equipped (Light Assist) model was named a 2022 Top Safety Pick awardee while the latter received the highest possible ranking from the organization, a 2022 Top Safety Pick+ award.

For a vehicle to earn the Top Safety Pick award, it must score Good ratings on all six crashworthiness tests, get Acceptable scores on available headlights, and an Advanced rating for both front crash prevention evals.

The 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI was able to bag the award by achieving the abovementioned requirements. Its LED headlights can be optioned with the available High Beam Control (Light Assist).

On the other hand, for a vehicle to get Top Safety Pick+ award it should score Good ratings on all six crashworthiness tests, get Acceptable scores on standard headlights, and an Advanced rating for both front crash prevention evals.

The 2022 Volkswagen Golf R comes with LED lights with High Beam Control (Light Assist) as standard.

Prices of the US-spec 2022 Golf GTI starts at US$29,880 while the 2022 Volkswagen Golf R starts at US$44,090.
