2023 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty Rebel breaks cover

Ram unveiled the upcoming 2023 model-year 2500 Heavy Duty Rebel at the Texas State Fair. The new pickup truck, according to the Michigan-based automotive brand, expands its heavy-duty lineup and offers a unique and exceptional combination of off-road performance without sacrificing towing and payload capabilities.

At a glance, the 2023 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty Rebel appears to share the same blacked-out exterior styling cues shared with the Ram Power Wagon trim. However, it carries with it unique design elements like exclusive badging and a sport performance hood from Mopar.

Other notable exterior appointments include a distinctive off-road suspension, rear limited-slip differential and rear electronic locker, set of 20-inch wheels wrapped in 33-inch off-road tires, and skid plates that protect the fuel tank and transfer case.

In addition, the Stellantis-owned brand said that the 2023 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty Rebel can be optioned with a spray-in bedliner, LED bed lighting, and bed step.

Inside, the 2023 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty Rebel boasts a high-tech cabin. Featured is a 360-degree Surround View camera that has a forward-view camera grid  lines to help navigate obstacles. The system, Ram explained, provides a single display-screen view of both sides of a trailer to assist drivers in maneuvering towing setups.

An available 12-inch frameless digital gauge cluster features nearly two dozen different menus. The full-color cluster features five reconfigurable tiles for at-a-glance data or quick and easy access to the most used information.

The 2023 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty Rebel offers three different seating options, including a cloth bench or bucket seat, a Bristol leather bench or bucket seat, and a full Natura Plus leather bucket seat.

Power comes from either a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 with cylinder deactivation and variable-cam timing (VCT) or a 6.7-liter Cummins standard-output turbo diesel I-6 engine. The former is mated to the 8HP75 eight-speed automatic transmission while the latter is paired to a 68RFE six-speed automatic transmission.

The 6.4-liter HEMI V8 powerplant makes 410 horsepower (hp) with 581.72Nm of torque while the 6.7-liter Cummins Cummins standard-output turbo diesel I-6 mill makes 370 horses and 1,156Nm of pulling power.

The HEMI-equipped models also get an integrated front-mounted WARN Zeon-12 winch. The winch is installed at the factory and features a special fairlead and fairlead retainer that utilizes a synthetic line that is maneuverable and won’t kink or fray.

Available safety features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Full-Speed Forward-Collision Warning Plus, Lane Keep Assist, Blind-spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Path Detection, Automatic Headlamps, Digital Rearview Mirror with Tow Mode, and Rain-Sensing Windshield Wipers.

The new 2023 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty Rebel is expected to go on sale in the United States (US) in the fourth quarter of 2022. Price, said Ram, starts at US$67,045 (P3.938 million).
