The kickoff for this year’s MSCC (Manila Sports Car Club) Mazda Miata Spec Series is set on May 25.
Organized by the Japanese automaker’s local arm and the non-profit organization, the upcoming one-make racing series is now on its third season.
Mazda Philippines prides itself on the MX-5 race cars’ capabilities, saying that every MSCC Miata Spec Series unit is powered by stock Skyactiv-G 2.0-liter engines paired with a six-speed Skyactiv-Drive manual transmission.
Aside from that, the company claimed that “no mechanical breakdowns” have been recorded in the past two seasons and that the vehicles “will go through an entire season only requiring consumables such as brake rotors and discs, and filters.”
“What sets the MX-5 Spec Series cars apart from the others is that it remains road legal. It comes with a license plate, and with the climate control and infotainment system intact, it is not just good for the track, but for the road as well,” Mazda Philippines President and Chief Executive Officer Steven Tan said.
Each Mazda MX-5 unit participating in the motorsport event comes with the following attachments:
In addition, Mazda Philippines has also started the retail of MX-5 Spec Series race cars — first time since the series’ inception in 2022 — “due to popular demand.”
“The MSCC Miata Spec Series draws people of various skill levels, and this has proven to be one of the main reasons for its continued success,” Tan shared.
Those who want to join the MSCC Miata Spec Series needs to have the two requirements: a MX-5 Spec Series race car and membership to the Manila Sports Car Club. Since the MX-5 Spec Series race car is a recognized sportscar by the MSCC, a racer only needs an endorsement letter from a current MSCC member.
The Mazda MX-5 Spec Series race car is currently being sold for P2.83 million. The pricing comes inclusive with all the fees for the entire four-round, eight-race season. They shall also receive 65 liters of Shell V-Power Racing, Shell Helix Ultra engine oil, and a set of new GT Radial Champiro SX2 tires.
The 2024 series shall be held at the Clark International Speedway (CIS) and the Batangas Racing Circuit (BRC) in an alternating manner.
