4 Best Sedans for the Money this 2020

Sedans may have handed the popularity crown to the SUV, but the traditional four-door still has a solid market share in terms of sales.

Aside from that, they hold certain advantages over their taller siblings including affordability, drivability and fuel economy. If you plan to go shopping for a sedan this 2020, we give you four of your best options on the market.

2020 Chevrolet Cruze

Chevrolet looks to beef up its presence when it introduces the 2020 Chevrolet Cruze, which is a lot sleeker and sportier than the outgoing model. The car is actually 2019 model in other markets—a fact soon forgotten considering its many improvements over its predecessor. Like being sculpted by a celebrity plastic surgeon, the style elements of the front face are still in where they used to be, albeit looking more dynamic and oozing with more appeal than before.

Engine displacement drops from the 1.8-liter to a 1.4-liter turbocharged inline-four that gives off 153 hp and 240 Nm of torque. Two transmission choices are on offer—a 9-speed automatic and 6-speed manual. Inside, the new Cruze receives the new ‘Infotainment 3’ system that comes with higher resolution, three USB ports, an onboard OnStar app, and Apple and Android connectivity.

Sadly, this year model is going to be the last of the Chevrolet Cruze, as the model has been discontinued with no replacement announced. If you find yourself interested in snapping up this car, know that this is your last chance to get it brand new. The car is expected to launch within this month with an expected price of PHP 1,150,000.

2020 Nissan Almera

Despite the many problems that presently plague the brand, Nissan continues to release a solid lineup of cars, including the current Juke, Navara, Terra, NV350 Urvan, and GT-R. We may count the 2020 Nissan Almera among these impressive releases once it arrives on our shores sometime next year. The V-Motion exterior with matching wraparound front and rear lights complement the new look nicely, as does the stylishly sloped roof. The elevated boot height further gives it sporty appeal.

The Thailand-spec Almera is powered by a turbocharged 1.0 liter 3-cylinder engine that makes 99 hp and 152 Nm, paired to a CVT. However, the local market version may choose to retain the current 1.5-liter driver of the existing model.

The upgrades extend to the Almera interior, which now sports a new two-tone dashboard for the top trim model (lower trims come in all-black interior). The centerpiece is an 8-inch infotainment screen powered by the NissanConnect system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. It’s also got the Nissan Intelligent Mobility safety suite, which is enjoying plenty of exposure and promotion at local safety-related expos and events. However, release date and pricing has not yet been set for the 2020 Nissan Almera, but with its reputation as a respectable and affordable car, you can expect the upcoming model to be more of the same, and that's not bad at all.

2020 Honda Accord

Easily one of the most popular sedan nameplates in the country, the Honda Accord continues to set the bar for midsize sedans with its exquisite elegance. Part of the 10th Accord generation that began in 2018, not much has changed in the 2020 model compared to the previous year. That said, the 2020 Honda Accord comes powered by a 1.5-liter Earth Dreams Technology engine mated to a CVT, and pitches a good 187 hp and 243 Nm of torque. Matrix headlights introduce the car to front onlookers, as does the six-year old Solid Wing Face design which is aging quite impressively. A fastback shape permeates at the sides, while LEDs accentuate the C-shaped taillights.

Inside, the 2020 Honda Accord is all about the leather. The seats provide even greater luxury with its 8-way power adjustment and lumbar support. Infotainment is supplied by a single floating 8-inch touchscreen display that contains two USB ports as well as Apple, Android and Bluetooth connectivity. Mated to this unit is an 8-speaker sound system with four tweeters. Overall packaging is capped off with the addition of the Honda Sensing suite of safety technologies, making the 2020 Honda Accord an even safer car. If you’re itching to buy one, you’re in luck, because the model is already available here. There’s only one trim available, and it starts at PHP2,288,000.

2020 Mazda3

Here’s another 2020 model that’s already available locally—the 2020 Mazda3. Overall, Mazda has dropped angles and lines in its lineup in favor of smooth curves and dimples, which lend their recent spate of offerings a more organic feel, not to mention truly unique. Peek inside and you’ll be welcomed by plush leather trim all throughout—it’s on the seats, steering wheel, dashboard, and even the side panels. However, this much luxury is limited only to the top-of-the-line trim.

The 2020 Mazda3 comes in two engine options a 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G. The former delivers 109 hp and 146 Nm, while the latter supplies 152 hp and 200 Nm. There’s only one transmission type available—a 6-speed SkyActiv-Drive equipped with G-Vectoring Control Plus. It’s got tons of standard tech, including a suite of driver assist systems, pedal misuse alert, dynamic stability, parking sensors and camera, rain-sensing wipers, dual-zone automatic climate controls, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a MazdaConnect-equipped 8.8-inch infotainment system that links to either a standard 8-speaker audio setup or a more upscale 12-speaker Bose sound system. Price for the 2020 Mazda3 starts at PHP 1,295,000.
