The 500,000th Mercedes-Benz G-Class sport utility vehicle (SUV) has rolled out of the brand’s factory in Graz, Austria.
Per the German carmaker, the aforementioned 500,000th unit features special appointments that hark back to its predecessor — the Mercedes-Benz 280 GE from the 1986 model year.
It wears an agave green paint, which Mercedes-Benz explained, was one of the first paint colors available for the G-Class. It also gets fender-mounted turn signals and dons the historic spare wheel cover with the Mercedes star, which is significantly larger than on today’s models. Further, the brand badge on the rear door and the five-spoke sterling silver wheel also evoke the early days of the G-Class.
Inside the 500,000th Mercedes-Benz G-Class are seats with chequered fabric upholstered in the middle section, which according to the Stuttgart-headquartered brand, is very typical for automobiles built in the late ‘70s to early ‘80s. It also sports a passenger-side grab handle with the “No. 500,000” lettering in agave green. Additionally, the SUV’s door knobs with embossed Mercedes-Benz badges also come in black instead of silver, which is the color used for standard G-Class models.
“On the occasion of the 500,000th anniversary, we would like to thank both our loyal customers and long-time fans as well as our employees and our production partner Magna Steyr in Graz. We are proud of this figure, which also underscores the exclusivity of the G-Class. After all, four whole decades have led to this significant anniversary. This makes the G-Class anything but a mass product. With the all-electric G-Class launching in 2024, which will push the boundaries of the off-road sector, we look forward with anticipation to the future of the off-road icon,” Mercedes-Benz Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Emmerich Schiller was quoted saying.
