Last week, Kia teased the outline of the refreshed Sportage. Today, the Korean automaker finally dropped the drapes and revealed the official images of the all-new SUV.
According to Kia, the fifth-generation Sportage has been carefully crafted to inspire customers with its exterior and interior design.
On the outside, the face-lifted Sportage offers clean and muscular styling with a detail-oriented black grille graphic. This design links the carmaker’s iconic Tiger Nose grille to the distinctive futuristic-styled boomerang-shaped DRLs (daytime running lamps).
The same design element can be found at the rear as the large lower graphic bumper casing below the razor lamps at the rear uses the same design philosophy as the frontal technical black grille.
In addition, the new iteration of one of Kia’s longest-running nameplates will feature a black roof, a first in the Sportage range.
Inside the cabin, the redesigned Sportage offers an abundance of intuitive and innovative technology.
Kia used an ergonomic center console that offers storage, operating system configuration, and cupholders. Soft-touch switches sit on a raised profile alongside the shift-by-wire transmission dial.
Above is a slim crush touchscreen pad flanked by finely detailed air vents on the side. The high-tech touchscreen pad along with the advanced integrated controller act as the nerve center for driver and passenger connectivity, functionality, and usability needs, says the carmaker.
The seats feature an integrated hanger within the slim headrests where clothing and handbags can be conveniently hooked into place.
“Reinventing the Sportage gave our talented design teams a tremendous opportunity to do something new; to take inspiration from the recent brand relaunch and introduction of EV6 to inspire customers through modern and innovative SUV design. With the all-new Sportage, we didn’t simply want to take one step forward but instead move on to a different level in the SUV class,” said Kia Senior Vice President and Head of Global Design Center Karim Habib.
“When you see the all-new Sportage in person, with its sleek but powerfully dynamic stance, and when you sit inside the detailed-oriented cabin with its beautifully detailed interior and first-class materials, you’ll see we have achieved those goals and set new benchmarks. In the all-new Sportage, we believe you can see the future of our brand and our products,” he adds.
Following their "Opposites United" design philosophy, Kia just raised the bar in terms of SUV styling.
Moreover, Kia said it plans to release a bolder model been specifically designed to convey a more confident, vigorous, and versatile character.
Dubbed the Sportage X-Line, this more aggressive version will feature befitting exterior upgrades like a unique bumper, side sill, and curved roof rack. Inside, Kia will give customers the chance to choose between a signature sage green or black seating, as well as bold quilting and black metal wood to further bring to life the model’s confident persona.
Despite the wealth of information revealed about the all-new Sportage, the South Korean car company has not provided specific details about the SUV’s release date.
The official statement mentions its global launch “later” this year and that “more information on the all-new Sportage will be made available in due course.”
