7 Audi models get top rating from IIHS

A total of seven 2022 Audi models received the highest rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The Ingolstadt-based automaker was bestowed with the 2022 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ awards in the Large Luxury Cars, Midsize Luxury Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) and Large SUV categories with the 2022 Audi A6, A6 Allroad, A7, Q5, Q5 Sportback, e-tron and e-tron Sportback. The aforementioned models are part of the 65 vehicles that have received the top recognition from the group.

Aside from that, the 2022 Audi A4, A5 Sportback and the Q8 were part of the 2022 IIHS Top Safety Pick list. 36 models that have been evaluated by the Virginia-headquartered non-profit organization and earned the above-mentioned grade.

The Volkswagen Group, which includes the Audi brand, comes second with the most number of awards gathered for 2022.

“All the 2022 award winners earn Good ratings in six IIHS crashworthiness tests, including the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, original side, roof strength, and head restraint tests. They are also available with front crash prevention systems that earn advanced or superior ratings in both the vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations, as well as at least one headlight system that earns a good or acceptable rating,” Audi explained in a statement.

Further, Audi said that the 2022 models offer a full suite of standard and available driver assistance features that are engineered to help drivers confidently navigate the road.

The driver assistance features include:

• Audi Pre Sense sensors that detect an impending rear-end collision and can initiate preventive measures by pretensioning the front safety belts and automatically adjusting the occupants' seats to a more optimal position;
• Adaptive cruise control with stop and go function that helps accelerate, brake, as well as maintain speed and distance to the vehicle in front;
• Adaptive cruise assist that continuously monitors the environment and helps assist with highway driving;
• Active lane assist that helps drivers stay in the lane as it detects lane markings and roadside structures;
• Audi side assist that alarms the driver if there is a vehicle approaching from the rear;
• Available parking system plus that detects an object in the path of the vehicle and warns the driver with visual and audible alarms;
• Audi night vision assistant that utilizes a long-range infrared camera and can react to the thermal energy given off by objects;
• Pedestrian and vehicle detection system that detects potential threats and aids drivers by initiating preventative measures, such as providing visual and acoustic warnings and can autonomously apply brakes if necessary.
