New Centennial Bongo Bridge in Ilocos now Open
Motorists can now use the new 2-lane Centennial Bongo Bridge along Ilocos Norte-Abra Road in Barangay Poblacion, Nueva Era, Ilocos Norte.
In his report to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar, DPWH Region I Director Ronnel Tan said that the newly-constructed bridge spanning 245.9 meters.
The latest road construction was recently opened to permanently replace the old Bongo Bridge traversing Padsan River.
“The newly-constructed Bongo Bridge now provides ease to our motorists, especially those going in and out of Ilocos Norte and Abra Provinces,” added Tan.
“We hope to replace and strengthen all old, weak, and structurally-deficient national bridges in Ilocos Region particularly bridges along major routes and secondary national roads to ensure safety of motorists particularly during natural calamities,” Tan said.
Bongon Bridge Replacement Project involves the construction of a 7-span bridge, with 35-meter pre-stressed concrete girder, metal beam guardrails, grouted riprap, gabion spur dikes, slope protection, solar lighting and road safety signages and markings.
The replacement of Bongo Bridge was implemented in two (2) phases amounting to a total of Php 194.5 Million.
