Chery Auto Philippines gave attendees of the 8th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) a pleasant surprise. The local arm of the Chinese automotive brand previewed a Chery Tiggo 8 Pro that runs on a more powerful 2.0-liter engine.
Erroll Dueñas, the President of United Asia Automotive Group Inc. (UAAGI) — the official distributor of Chery automobiles here in the Philippines — led the unveiling of the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro 2.0T.
Also present was Chery Auto Philippines’ Vice President (VP) for Sales and Marketing Luigi Ignacio. According to Ignacio, the 2.0-liter Chery Tiggo 8 Pro features innovative features that make its new engine a powerful and fuel-efficient power plant.
The new gasoline-fed mill boasts a second-generation i-HEC combustion system for industry-leading energy efficiency. It also comes with a direct fuel injection system for full combustion and powerful performance. A full-dimension ultra-low friction reduction technology ensures fuel efficiency of seven liters per 100 kilometers (km).
According to Chery Auto Philippines’ execs, the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro 2.0T makes 257 horsepower (hp) and 390Nm of torque.
The said engine also won the 2021 “China Heart” Top Ten Engines Award, which is said to be among the three prestigious engine awards in the world including the “Ward Top 10 Engines” and “International Engine of the Year.”
No mention of its release date was made in the event. However, upon launch, the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro 2.0T will either join or replace the currently-available 1.6-liter engine-equipped Chery Tiggo 8 Pro.
Those wanting to see the sport utility vehicle (SUV) in the metal can visit Chery Auto Philippines’ booth at MIAS. It will be open until Sunday, September 18.
