2022 PIMS

The highly-anticipated 8th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) kicks off today at the World Trade Center in Pasay City. In line with the event’s theme, some of the participating brands are looking to bring new products that would help promote sustainable mobility in the country.

The local distributors of Korean automotive brands Hyundai and Kia are expected to unveil the all-electric all-electric Ioniq 5 and EV6. The two EV sport utility vehicles (SUV) share the same Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).

These models will join the country’s increasing roster of electrified models that include the Nissan Leaf, Jaguar I-Pace, Porsche Taycan, and BYD Tang Electric.

Suzuki might also join the country’s growing hybrid segment. Although not yet confirmed, the Japanese carmaker could be displaying the hybrid version of the Suzuki Ertiga at its booth.

And while the country keenly looks forward to an electrified future, many Filipino motorists still appreciate vehicles that run on internal combustion engines (ICE). That said, brands like Honda and Kia are looking to present their latest ICE-powered models at today’s motor expo.

Honda Cars Philippine Inc. (HCPI) has confirmed today’s unveiling of the Honda HR-V RS Turbo. The new model will most likely sit at the top of the Honda HR-V hierarchy and will reportedly be getting the same 1.5-liter VTEC Turbo powerplant as the currently-available Honda HR-V V Turbo.

Meanwhile, the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has announced that PIMS attendees can take advantage of its auto loan offerings. Similarly, HPI will extend its promo to this year’s PIMS event-goers.

Other things to expect at PIMS’ opening day include Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation’s (MMPC) local re-introduction of the Ralliart sub-brand, Toyota Motor Philippines’ (TMP) presentation of its products and services, and Centro Manufacturing Corporation’s (CMC) revealing of its concept modern public utility vehicle (PUV) dubbed as “Hari ng Kalsada” (King of the Road).
