A tale of two Terras: Comparing the old and new Nissan Terra models

The Nissan Terra is the Japanese automaker’s entry to the highly competitive midsize SUV segment in the Philippines.

It has held the fort for Nissan since its release in 2018 where it was thrown into the mix with industry stalwarts like the Toyota Fortuner and the Mitsubishi Montero Sport.

For the 2021 year model, Nissan Philippines decided to give the Terra mild upgrades. Interested to find out just how much of a difference these updates maker? Join us to find out.

Exterior

The new Nissan Terra wears a slightly redesigned front fascia. At the front end is the new chrome V-motion grille flanked by quad-LED projector headlamps with auto-leveling function, automatic on-and-off follow-me-home feature, and signature LED DRLs.

Nissan Terra Facelift

The old Terra had an obviously dated design and while it shares somewhat similar lighting features like LED headlamps with styled LED position lamps that had automatic on-and-off as well as follow-me-home functions, it did have more curves while the newer model had sharper angles.

Both Nissan Terras have chrome door handles and can be had in 18-inch alloy wheels. The newer one has faux air intakes.

At the back, those with keen eyes will notice that the rear spoiler of the new Terra is longer than the old one. The old Terra also had a horizontal rear garnish whereas the newer one arches over the Nissan badge at the back.

The placement of the rear reflectors on the old Terra is also higher compared to the newer model.

Interior

Inside, the older Terra had more seat material options to offer. Depending on the trim level, you can get either black knit-type fabric, black suede-type fabric, or the more upscale brown leather.

The seats of the new Terra, on the other hand, only have black fabric and black leather to offer, depending on the variant.

Meanwhile, both the old and the new Terra’s steering wheels can be had in either urethane or leather.

It’s expected for the newer mid-size SUV to sport more advanced tech. That said, it gets a seven-inch high-contrast instrument panel, a wireless charger, either an eight or a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system (depending on the variant), and an 11-inch flip-down rear monitor.

The New Nissan Terra VL

The older Nissan Terra had some modest features like an instrument panel with advanced drive-assist TFT display and a touchscreen infotainment system which can be had in either 6.75-inch or seven-inch depending on the trim level.

Safety

Both the old and the new Terra get the Nissan Intelligent Mobility. However, the older model is limited only to hill start assist (HSA), hill descent control (HDC), intelligent around-view monitor (AVM), intelligent rearview mirror, and lane departure warning.

The new Terra gets intelligent forward collision warning (IFCW), blind-spot warning (BSW), and rear-cross traffic alert (RCTA).
