Abalos resigns as MMDA Chair
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced that Benhur Abalos will resign from his post as chairman — a position which he held for more than a year — beginning tomorrow.

The resignation is effective by the end of business day today (February 7, 2022).The outgoing MMDA chair made the announcement during a press briefing, saying that he has submitted his resignation letter to President Rodrigo Duterte.
“It has been an honor and privilege to serve the Filipino people as MMDA chair," Abalos said.
“The campaign period is fast approaching and I would need to devote my time to Senator Bongbong Marcos’ campaign as his national campaign manager. While I am extremely saddened by this, I wish the agency success in its every program, project, and initiative for the betterment of the metropolis," he added.
Following the resignation, incumbent MMDA General Manager Romando Artes will serve as the agency’s officer-in-charge, pending the appointment of the next MMDA chairman by Malacañang.
A lawyer by profession, Abalos replaced the late MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim, who passed away in January 2021.
