KEY TAKEAWAYS
How much growth in sales did AC Motors experience in 2021?
The multi-brand automotive company had enjoyed a 30-percent sales growth compared to 2020’s figures. To what did AC Motors attribute its strong sales?
The performance was due to the new vehicle offerings, the company’s digitization efforts and dealer network expansion. This was shared by AC Motors President for Automobile Group Antonio Zara III during a recent virtual meet.
Without mentioning figures, the company’s surge in sales has outpaced the local automotive industry, who had an 18-percent rise in the same January-December 2021 timetable versus the 2020 performance.
This can be attributed to the continued to increase total dealer network —adding 10 outlets in 2021 from 85 outlets that it already had in 2020 amid the challenges posed by the pandemic situation.
Aside from that, Zara said that the automobile arm of the AC Industrials — which manages the distributorship of Volkswagen, Kia and Maxus, and Ayala-owned dealerships of Honda and Isuzu — kept its competitiveness in 2021 by remaining focused on the interests of its customers, and by “riding on the strength, versatility, and adaptability of the multi-brand portfolio.”
All the five aforementioned brands have released new models: Maxus had its D60; Volkswagen, the T-Cross and Multivan Kombi; Kia with the Sorento; Isuzu brought the latest D-Max and mu-X; and Honda with the newest iteration of the Civic, the fifth-generation City, and City Hatchback.
Aside from that, AC Motors also boosted its presence in the digital world by pouring more expertise and resources to complement the efforts on the ground. This, AC Motors shared, resulted to as high as 40-percent of monthly sales “which can be traced back to one of the many digital channels.”
Further, Zara expressed confidence that the company would continue to experience growth as it explores even more avenues of opportunity as parent company Ayala commits to a more sustainable future.
Among AC Motors’ immediate target this year is to steadily grow its sales volume with vehicle launches starting with the forthcoming introduction of the all-new Kia Carnival and strengthening its presence in the truck market.
AC Motors also said that it will further expand its network and digitization will likewise continue.
Relatedly, AC Motors is also poised to become a key player in sustainable mobility, as the Ayala group has committed to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. To help achieve this goal, AC Motors will actively explore bringing in electric vehicles to the domestic market.
“The EV law and its corresponding roadmap is about to be finalized. Government must consider lowering import duties aside from excise tax privileges. Let us protect strategic sectors such as the PUV but allow easier importation of private vehicles. We need to make EV ownership more accessible,” Zara urged.
