Aces and flaws of the Hyundai Accent

With a mature and modern design that wraps a reliable and thrifty powertrain, the Hyundai Accent found its place in the small sedan segment. This Hyundai took the roles of family car and TNVS mobile. 

The Accent is set to provide dependable service, in exchange of showroom prices from P790,000 to P1.038 million. Should you decide to go for this car, expect it to come with its share of pros and cons. 

Pros

Diesel power

A diesel mill is unique to the segment, and so the Accent stands out with its 1.6-liter oil-burner with 126hp and 260Nm. Based on tests, the mill can muster 29.4kpl. A choice of a six-speed manual or automatic is available. 

The same transmission choices can be paired to the Accent's other engine, a 1.4-liter gasoline mill with 99hp and 132Nm. 

No-frills

Positioned as basic transport, the Accent provides everything its five occupants will ever need. 

The equipment list is made short but sweet by a 3.8-inch LCD display radio with Aux and USB input, manual aircon with rear vents, and power windows. Outside, the Accent carries halogen headlights and 15-inch steel wheels with wheel covers.  

Cons

Price

There are similarly-sized cars that can offer more equipment than the Accent. Crossovers can be had between P800,000 and P1 million too, such as Hyundai's own Venue.

Although the sedan is more compact, the tall hatchback might still be the consumer's choice, as it has the advantage in cargo space and ground clearance. 

Airbags absent in particular variants

Advanced safety features could have pushed the price upward. However, two out of the six Accent variants don't even come with driver and passenger airbags, a feature found in many more affordable cars. 

On the upside, the Accent is made with 50 percent Advanced High-Strength Steel (AHSS), which is further complemented by a shell that's said to be more protective yet lightweight. It also meets the safety standards set by USA’s National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration.
