Actor George Clooney Brushes with Death in Terrifying Bike Crash
Hollywood A-lister George Clooney had to be taken to a hospital after his bike collided with a car in Sardinia, Italy.
Clooney, 57, found himself thrown across the bonnet of the car and sprawled to the ground as his motorcycle, a moped, was toppled by the force of the collision. The impact was so strong that Clooney’s helmet shattered the car’s windshield. Fortunately, the actor was found only with minor injuries and was treated and discharged immediately from the John Paul II Hospital in the Sardinian city of Olbia.
“He is recovering at his home and will be fine," said a spokesperson for the actor.
Clooney didn’t have any broken bones from the accident, but will need to undergo physical therapy for his knee.
The Carabinieri, Italy's military police force, released the following statement:
At 8.15 am, George Clooney was riding his scooter on the State Road 125 towards Olbia from Puntaldia. `A car (a Mercedes E SW) did not respect the right of way and hit him. George Clooney fell and slammed the windshield of the Mercedes. The car driver called the 112, the emergency number of Carabinieri, and they sent the Municipal Police, an ambulance and the Fire Dept. MRI was negative, and he is not seriously injured. George Clooney has already been discharged and he stays well.
Prior to the accident, Clooney was on his way to the set of Catch 22, a new TV series based on a novel of the same name, written by Joseph Heller. The book and the corresponding TV series tells the story of a team of United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) during World War II.
