According to the DOTR, more buses deployed at the EDSA Carousel would translate to more efficient and more convenient transport service. The agency made the explanation after Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista was quoted in several news articles that the DOTr was eyeing to add more buses to augment the public transportation system that would help ease traffic congestion in the National Capital Region.
“It is the objective of the DOTr to require bus operators with units running on the EDSA Busway to field 100 percent of their units to serve the transport needs of bus commuters in EDSA,” the DOTr shared.
According to the transportation department, an average of 406 out of the 550 NAU are operating daily on the EDSA Busway.
Should the operators comply with the DOTR requirement to field all their buses on EDSA Carousel would result in the addition of 50-100 buses that are currently on the bus line.
“More buses on the EDSA Busway will mean more efficient and more convenient transport service for residents and workers in Metro Manila who ride these buses daily,” the DOTr explained.
“The DOTr under the leadership of Secretary Bautista remains committed to providing Filipino commuters with safe, reliable, and efficient transport modes especially now with the transition to the new normal,” the agency added.
