The Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit will take place from October 19 to 21, 2023.Per Rommel Juan — a founding member and executive of the Electric Vehicles Association of the Philippines (EVAP) — AFEVA said that it recognizes the crucial role that electric vehicles (EV) play in promoting clean and efficient transportation solutions.
In endorsing the aforementioned declaration, Juan also stated that AFEVA looks to strengthen the collaboration among ASEAN nations in developing a comprehensive electric vehicle ecosystem that fosters innovation, investment, and sustainable growth.
The said declaration, Juan noted, underlines four important strategies.
The first is promoting the development of charging infrastructure. This strategy emphasizes the importance of establishing a robust and widespread network of charging stations, ensuring convenient access to charging facilities for EV owners across ASEAN member countries.
Next, the ASEAN leaders stated that they want to enhance research and development of EVs in general. This proposed action will focus on innovation and will enable ASEAN nations to strengthen their competitiveness in the global EV market.
Encouraging harmonization of policies and regulations is another key strategy noted by the ASEAN leaders in their declaration. This alignment will facilitate seamless cross-border EV operations and promote regional collaboration.
Finally, the ASEAN leaders want to facilitate industry collaboration and investment. This fourth strategy looks to foster collaboration between governments, industry stakeholders, and investors, ASEAN can attract investment, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth.

Through knowledge sharing, capacity building, and advocacy efforts, AFEVA aims to contribute to the development of a thriving electric vehicle ecosystem that addresses the region's environmental challenges and enhances its global competitiveness,” a press statement from the EVAP executive said.
The local automotive industry plays its part in the grand scheme of electrification in the region with programs like the Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit, which will happen from October 19 to 21 this year.
