After riding issues, Bautista eyes podium, overall victory in upcoming SBK season

Alvaro Bautista

Following reports quoting that he does not really like his Honda vehicle, former MotoGP racer Alvaro Bautista said that he might have a good chance to win podium victories at the FIM Superbike World Championship Series (SBK) season next year.

During a virtual roundtable with international members of the media, Bautista told Carmudi Philippines that he is in constant communication with the engineers of the team to improve its ride lean towards his ability.

“I speak a lot with my engineers. Basically, we have to fix so many things in the bike and we are working a lot on the electronics side and also on the rear traction,” the 36-year old Spaniard Bautista said during the online interview.

“So we are trying to improve this and I think if we can make a step forward for next season, we can be very close to the podium fight or even for the victory fight.”

He and teammate 37-year old Leon Haslam from the United Kingdom will be bannering Team Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) on board the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP for next year.

Meanwhile, according to the Japanese marque, they are targeting podium wins in each premier class in road, motocross and trial championships through HRC factory teams.

According to the company statement, HRC “will also compete in premier production bike racing series, the FIM Superbike World Championship series, and aim to defend its Dakar crown in the 2021 edition.”

“In the FIM Endurance World Championship series, Yuki Takahashi, winner of the new ST1000 class in the 2020 Motorcycle Federation of Japan All Japan Road Racing Championship (JRR), will join FCC. TSR Honda France. In the American Motorcyclist Association SuperCross World Championship 450SX class, American Honda’s factory team ‘Team Honda HRC’ will continue to race.”

Team HRC

In December 10, Honda bared its  plans in FIM motorcycle motorsports world championship racing series for the 2021 season and the Dakar Rally 2021, through an online event.

With that, Honda is eyeing to bag the world’s major titles through its Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) operated factory teams, and its satellite teams.

This year, Ricky Brabec took Honda’s first Dakar victory in 31 years by winning the Dakar Rally 2020, held for the first time in Saudi Arabia. In FIM Road Racing World Championship series racing, in which Honda has participated since way back 1959, Jaume Masia won the Moto3 class race in Round 12, giving Honda its 800th win in the series.

In the premier class of the FIM Motocross World Championship series, Tim Gajser claimed back-to-back titles for his third overall championship, and in the FIM Trial World Championship series, Toni Bou won his 14th premier class title in as many years.
