All-boxed up: Hyundai unveils ‘boxy’ 5th-gen Santa Fe

5th-generation Hyundai Santa Fe

Hyundai Motor Company (HMC) has revealed the fifth-generation Santa Fe — fully upgraded and “all-boxed up.”

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How is the fifth-generation Santa Fe different from the currently offered version?

The upcoming Hyundai Santa Fe veered away from the 4th-generation model's aesthetics by dropping the rounded design for a more boxy look.
  • When and where will Hyundai have the official global debut of the 5th-generation Santa Fe?

The forthcoming all-new Santa Fe will have its world premiere next month on the official Hyundai Youtube channel.
  • The Korean automaker shared that the midsize sport utility vehicle’s (SUV) latest version comes with major updates that revolve around the latest outdoor lifestyle trends.

Per HMC, the new model is engineered to have a robust yet delicately detailed exterior and a spacious, versatile interior that “flows from the openness of its enlarged tailgate, providing users with a terrace-like space.”

“The all-new Santa Fe is an SUV that finds a perfect balance between city life and the great outdoors, handling everything from busy family itineraries to car camping adventures,” Hyundai Global Design Center Head and ExecutiveVice President Sangyup Lee was quoted as saying.

“With its longer wheelbase, roomy interior and terrace-like tailgate space, the new Santa Fe leans into its SUV strengths to offer more versatility than ever before as well as a premium customer experience,” he added.

As shared by Hyundai, the all-new Santa Fe's features an overall boxy look, a long wheelbase design and wide tailgate, veering away from the current-generation model's purely elegant look. To its fore are the H-shaped headlamps that match the H-motif lower front fascia. The same shape is also visible on the vehicle’s taillamps.

The side profile of the all-new Santa Fe side highlights its extended wheelbase as well as the bold roofline, sharp wheel arches, shortened front overhang and 21-inch wheels, which is comparable to European SUV models.

Inside, the vehicle sports a good mix of horizontal and vertical lines and wears the H-motif design as seen on the dashboard and air vents. It also has a panoramic curved display and dual wireless charging. The curved display connects the 12.3-inch digital cluster and infotainment system and enhances driver visibility.

In addition, the newly-revealed model is tailored with wood-patterned garnish and Nappa leather seats. It is also fitted with suede headliner, car mats, and second- and third-row seat backs that are made of recycled plastic as well as crash pad and door trim covers covered in eco-friendly leatherette material.

Further, the vehicle provides a spacious interior that is complemented by fully foldable second- and third-row seats to help customers enjoy the great outdoors.

The interior and exterior colors, inspired by natural light, highlight the unique style of the all-new Santa Fe — bringing inspiration and vitality to everyday life and adventure in the city and great outdoors.

As of the time of publishing, the HMC has yet to disclose the full details of the all-new Santa Fe, which will make its world premiere next month on Hyundai’s official Youtube channel.

Currently, the Santa Fe nameplate is still part of the Hyundai Motor Philippines’ roster. The styling cues of the locally-retailed, fourth-generation Santa Fe showcases rounded edges unlike the upcoming offering.
