The latest crossover iteration of the Corolla nameplate is now available for the Japan market.
The all-new Toyota Corolla Cross has been launched following the 50-million cumulative-sales milestone that the Corolla series achieved last July.
In a statement, Toyota claimed that the all-new Corolla Cross “inherits the ‘plus alpha’ concept of previous generations of the Corolla series,” while "staying close to customers and continuing to evolve."
Toyota shared, “The first-ever SUV Corolla model was born, aiming to offer a new innovative and expansive form for the new demands of the age. It combines the spacious interior and outstanding utility characteristic of an SUV with powerful performance and superb fuel efficiency.”
Offered in gasoline and hybrid options, the all-new Corolla Cross is powered with an optimized 1.8-liter engine. The gasoline-powered variants are mated to a CVT.
On the outside, the all-new Corolla Cross sports a redesigned front fascia that seems to wear a lower, wider grille. The shape of the head and tail lamps are still the same but the lighting system inside has been designed differently compared to the previous version.
Occupants get to enjoy a good view from the inside, thanks to the slender front pillars and the panorama poof with motorized retractable shade.
Despite the size, it only has a minimum turning radius of 5.2 meters, among the best in its class — ensuring maneuverability on narrow roads and in car parks.
Further, it offers a luggage capacity of 487 liters while seating five. When the rear seats are folded, the all-new Corolla Cross can fit road bicycles. The large luggage door is set at a height of 72 mm above ground, and can be accessed with a hands-free power back door (operated simply by carrying the key fob and placing one's foot under the rear bumper).
Both driver and front passenger enjoy sporty seats which have slim backs that also leave sufficient room for the rear occupants.
The latest edition of Toyota Safety Sense comes as standard to all grades of the all-new Corolla Cross. Most of the variants also come with Parking Support Brake and Back Guide Monitor for added peace of mind even in narrow spaces.
Buyers may also opt to have the Plus Support (dealer option) to control sudden acceleration due to misapplication of the accelerator pedal.
Furthermore, the hybrid offerings of the newly-launched Corolla Cross can be utilized as power supply as it has an accessory power outlet (AC100V/1,500W) and an Emergency Power Supply Mode. Of course, in normal driving conditions, both hybrid and gasoline grades can charge smartphones and other electrical devices via in-cabin USB terminals.
It was August last year when Toyota Motor Philippines brought the Corolla Cross into the country. The hybrid variant of the crossover offering can be applied with the company's Balloon Payment Plus option.
